It's that time of year again -- April 27th is the annual Hollywood Charity Horse Show. In case you've never heard me mention it, it's a charity event that I organize every year. Over the last twelve years, we've raised money for children.
The show started out as CARES, a different charity that benefited children's causes. Then the people running the program were going to cancel it, and I thought it would be simple to put on a horse show in its place. The charity that I wanted to benefit was Ahead with Horses, because I saw them performing in one of the rings in the Equestrian Center and I started bawling. Ever since my children were born, anytime I see a child who is struggling, I am terribly moved. So Ahead with Horses seemed perfectly appropriate.
I started out with a saddlebred show, but I turned it into a quarter horse show because I thought I would garner more support from the quarter horse community. Unfortunately, neither group was particularly forthcoming with their support. So I've relied on a cadre of volunteers to run the show. The show works because of these volunteers, a small group of people who come together every year to do a Herculean job

Over the years, we've managed to raise over a million dollars for children's charities. In the last few years, we've added another charity that receives our gifts, that is LA's Best, which is an after school program for kids. For more information on each of these charities please click on the charity names.
If you're in the Los Angeles area on the 27th, please join us for what promises to be a fun and moving event. I know the children would appreciate it with all their hearts. I'll be on hand to cheer everyone on, and, of course, ride some horses. I hope I'll see you there.
