TV shows usually take a break during the summer. I, on the other hand, do not. Elizabeth and I took a week to drive down the Italian coast looking for a great plate of spaghetti.  |
Although the people and the sites were wonderful, we really had a hard time locating the spaghetti. Everyone told me how great the food was in Italy but for some reason, I couldn't find any spaghetti! We then went on to Germany where I accepted an award. It was a great time but I was very glad to get home to my family and my dogs.
I'm looking forward now to the beginning of "Boston Legal's" next season which begins filming in July. They've moved the show to Tuesday nights (anyone watching Grey's Anatomy?) and Denny and I can't wait. |

Home always feels extra special and comforting after you've been away for a while. Good luck with the new season of "Boston Legal!" Enjoy the rest of your summer! :)

Congratulations on your award! Any web links or pictures?

I had the same sort of problem when I stayed Italy about 10 years ago. While I was doing some travelling. I ended up staying near some friends and although their parents could make great spaghetti, there was nowhere in their town that could do likewise. The meals taste well what a tourist would expect. I though it strange that spaghetti is an iconic Italian symbol and I could not find a decent meal. Perhaps all the best pasta chiefs have moved to New York.
In the UK we are at about episode 6 on Boston Leagal. It is very entertaining.

I'm really glad to here about Boston Legal. Not only that it will soon be back, but Grey's Anatomy is so boring and repetitious and unrealistic (does anyone believe the doc sleeping with the intern (resident?) wouldn't have been fired?), I stopped watching about episode three.
Now if only nbc will bring back Eyes at a different time from Boston Legal, Tuesday night will be good television.
I envy you the trip to Italy...

Hello Mr Shatner,
Sorry, but I don't get this thing about not finding spaghetti in Italy! Spaghetti are available everywhere here in Italy. Supermarkets, shops, restaurants... everywhere. Look for brands like De Cecco, Voiello, Buitoni, Barilla, or better still, go for the home-made varieties. But rest assured that there are plenty of spaghetti in Italy. They're as quintessential as tea for the British. The country would fall apart without spaghetti, and it's not because they cook them to the consistency of wallpaper glue as often happens outside Italy. Also, real spaghetti are sold in boxes, not cans.
Could it be that the problem was that you were asking for plain spaghetti, without a sauce, and the waiters didn't understand? If so, the magic phrase is <em>"spaghetti in bianco"</em>, which you can have with olive oil ("olio di oliva") or butter ("burro") and Parmesan cheese ("parmigiano"). Or just e-mail me the next time you come to Italy and I will take you to a good restaurant.
By the way, I was your interpreter at Sticcon (the British voice in your headphones at the Italian Star Trek convention? Yep, me) and I was puzzled when you made this same comment to the Italian audience. I translated it literally, of course, but quite a few people came up to me later and asked "What was that thing about not finding spaghetti? Did you translate correctly?". So I'd love to understand what you actually meant.
Also, it would be a real pity if you left Italy without enjoying an authentic plate of spaghetti. One that sticks to your memory, not to your wall!
<em>Ciao</em> from Paolo, Italy

Hi everyone!
I have to say something about this argument: I'm italian and I can say for sure that in my country there's the best pasta in the world!
I don't know where you have been to eat something when you were in Italy but I can't accept that somebody say here that "maybe the best pasta's restaurants have been moved to New York"....
If you decide to come in Italy I can take you in a lot of great restaurants (and if you don't want to go out to have dinner I can cook you a lot of pasta receipts).
An old latin proverb say: "Give to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar".
Say everything about Italy but don't say anything about the food, please!

I have NOT been watching Grey's Anatomy. We are not big TV watchers here at our house. Star Trek reruns, Boston Legal, CSI, 4400 and that is about it.
Is there any chance you might get to guest star on 4400 - maybe as one of the returned? Seeing you and Joel working together would be so cool.
We sure have missed you here at the WSBBS.

congradulations on your European award. I knew no other way to contact you except through this site. I appologise if this the incorrect way. I am trying to reach you about horse shavings. You got a small company started in the bag business, Curl Pak, out of Georgia. They supplied you shavings years ago to your locations here on the east. I purchased the company in early May. My company has been growing leaps and bounds. Our bags are in Tractor Supply Co stores all over. Anyway CBS had a segment on you about the ranch a few Sundays ago. I told my wife we should contact you as we grow toward the west to start a premium brand called Shatner Shavings on the west. We like yourself are big contributors of time and money to civic organizations. This may be a bag label we both could donate to your ridding civic organizations. Anyway, thanks for the reading and if this interest you please email me and let me know. Good luck with the filming in July! We have been big fans all our lives. Thanks Rod

I call it "Cellophane" which is, of course, clear rap (not wrap). I think rap has it's place, but I can almost never understand the words, and when I do understand them, I don't connect... I can't get behind that stuff!! But yours is not only clear, it has depth and emotion and truth and meaning. I wish you had done it on TV and on a concert tour! Think about it!
Thanks again for the great CD,

Spaghetti, Spaghetti, SPAGHETTI !!
That was my husband's favorite food. He would tell me that it did not matter what I fixed for "supper" he would eat it. He wasn't picky, but his favorite was ... Spaghetti. I do not eat spaghetti very much any more. My girls like spaghetti so I try to fix it a couple of times a month. My husband, their father got killed July 2000. It has almost been 5 years.
We were married 10 years, 1 month. He was a big "do-it-yourself-er." He was at home setting up a mobile home. Big plans. My mom, the girls, and I walked into my mom's house, just for about 20-30 minutes. When we came back out it was getting dark.
The mobile home fell and he was under it. It was a horrible night. I still cry when I tell it. The month before we had just celebrated our 10th year anniversary. We were married at 18 and 19 years old. He was 28 when he got killed. We thought 10 years had be so long... That night I realized 10 years was too short. I try to be thankful for the 10 years, but I think it is so unfair. People walk away from the people they say they will love for all their lives and we only got ten years. It was not our choice to be seperated.
This year I introduced my girls to "Star Trek." I loved Star Trek as a young girl. Okay, well, I "loved" Captain James T. Kirk. :o) Of course, now I appreciate more of the crew than just Captain Kirk. I "love" Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, and a few more I don't know how to spell. I'm not a big trekky fan. I've never seen all the movies. I bought the set and borrowed the serries from my cousin. My oldest daughter is 10 and I thought she might like Captain James T. Kirk. And sure enough she did. The younger one is 5 years old (she was 11 months when her father got killed). She likes it too. They are a little different -- being two girls they usually switch up acting out "boy" parts in movies they've seen. They "fight" over being Captain Kirk. The older one, Sara wants to be Captain Kirk most of the time, but the younger one wants to be Captain Kirk every time they go to my dad's house. They like Janice, but neither one wants to be Janice. I think my father's wife is Janice, the girls are Kirk and Spock, and my dad, I think he is the doctor. They are really crazy about "Star Trek." Just today we watched one and Kirk and Janice were standing side by side and Sara said, "They make a good couple."
We've also watched "Mind Meld." I like it, but the girls wasn't too interested. Rachel, the 5 y/o fell asleep. I liked it, but it was too short. I'd like to know more about each episode.
My mother's favorite episode it, "The Trouble with Tribbles." We haven't seen that one yet. I've seen it years ago when I was child, but not recently. The other one she likes it "The Search for Spook." I don't remember that one.
My mom found "Pioneer Woman" for a dollar at the Dollar Tree Store, but I would not buy it because your character gets killed. I could not stand to watch that. But I am that way with any thing about widows or broken families. I watched the movie "Lilo and Stitch" with my girls and because Lilo and her sister's parents had been killed and they were left alone, Lilo, the little girl says to her sister after a fight, "I liked you better when you were my sister, not my mother. We're a broken family, aren't we?" I had those big hot tears just rolling down my cheeks and trying not to sob. My girls could not understand why I was crying. We had our life all planed out. Family, children, teaching, homeschooling, now he's gone and we are a broken family.
Getting off track again...
I appreciate the life you brought to the character, James T. Kirk. I also appreciate the ones that brought life to the characters of Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Janice, Lt. Ahoua, Scotty, Chechov, Zulu...
Thanks
Mickie

I'm so glad for the opportunity to speak to you. Somewhere amongst my old papers is a faded black-and-white Polaroid of a perfectly hysterical 12-year-old me with your arm around my shoulders. You were in the bustling burg of East Rochester, NY, doing a forgettable little play called, "There's a Girl in my Soup." My aunt, who had seen my bedroom-slash-shrine-to-all-things-Shatner, generously took me to the play, and shepherded me around behind the auditorium afterward where the exalted moment took place. From time to time over the years I've come across that photo, and it never fails to bring a wry grin to my face. I'd love to email it to you if you'd tell me how.
And re spaghetti -- forget pasta! That you can get anywhere! In Italy one eats Adriatic seafood at any opportunity! Yummmmm!
