Last week?s UPHA/American Royal National Championships in Kansas City marked the end of the 2003 horse show season for many Saddlebred horse competitors, including Bill and Elizabeth. They showed four Saddlebred horses and came away with three first place ribbons?a marvelous accomplishment! Bill and Liz have earned top ribbons in over a half a dozen highly competitive horse shows in and around Kentucky the last few months, the most prestigious of which was the World Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky in late August. |

Friday, August 22nd was especially memorable as both Bill and Liz competed in back-to-back events each winning a blue ribbon and the coveted championship in their respective classes.

Above, Bill gives Elizabeth the thumbs up as his horse is pinned with the first place ribbon in the Amateur Roadster to Bike Championship.

Then takes Spill the Ink on a spin around the indoor arena in a customary victory pass. Elizabeth followed suit with a win in the Amateur Five Gaited Championship, considered the most prestigious amateur class in the entire show! It was her best win?ever. A truly remarkable achievement! In fact, the morning headlines in the sports section of the Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper read: "Shatners take home blue ribbons in 2 events. Her triumph in amateur 5-gaited is her biggest yet."

Above, Elizabeth beams as trainer Melissa Moore drapes yellow flowers over the new Saddlebred Five-Gaited Amateur Champion, The Full Monty. 2003 World?s Championship Horse Show Results: William Shatner - 1st Place: Amateur Road Horse to Bike, Division B: Spill the Ink

This has been a tremendously successful year for Bill and Elizabeth, competing on the East Coast with Saddlebreds and Roadster horses, and on the West Coast in reining competitions with Quarter horses. Being that this was Elizabeth's first year as a reiner, she did remarkably well!
From East Coast to West Coast, Spring to Fall, from Saddlebreds to Roadsters to Quarter horses, Bill and Liz are a winning team, poised for a great 2004 horse show season. Let the competition beware!

If you've had the opportunity to catch Bill and Liz at a horse show, you know how much fun it is seeing their joy with the horses and with the competition. If you haven?t had the chance to see them compete, check the online calendar next year as there may be a show in your area that you can attend. Our best wishes to Bill and Liz as they go for the blue in 2004.
