CURRENT PROJECTS

Bill's Space  When I?m not having fun, I?m working on my many projects. Join me at ?Bill?s Space? where I fill you in on my latest ones?
Lisabeth has mentioned some of the fun activities the family has been fortunate enough to experience lately. But when I?m not having fun, I?m busy trying to get my projects off the ground. I thought I?d mention a few of the ones I?m involved in at the moment?

There is going to be a screening of ?Groom Lake? in Los Angeles on November 16. In order to qualify for DVD release, a movie has to make at least one public appearance. For ?Groom Lake,? this screening will be that performance. That means ?Groom Lake? will in stores soon and hopefully will make an appearance on some cable as well. It has distribution in all areas, including foreign, so I am looking forward to its future with anticipation.

I?ve also been working on two scripts ? The first is called ?Relics? and the second is ?Shiva Club.? They are very different from each other, so it?s been a fun way for me to stretch my creative muscles. I?m looking for financing on both scripts, so I?ll be sure to let you know what happens as events unfold.

In January I?m directing a play that a dear friend, Michael Tobias, and I wrote together. It?s called ?Harry and Arthur? (we?re still toying with the idea of renaming it ?Believe?). It?s about the collision between the great spiritualist, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the great debunker of spirituality, Harry Houdini. It?s opening the first of February in Vancouver for a limited time. We don?t know who will be playing the parts of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or Harry Houdini yet, but I?m eager to cast the parts and begin working on the play.

Last but certainly not least, Splatt Attack! is going to be shown on pay-per-view on December 8 and available in stores on December 10. It combines Star Trek sci-fi elements with paintball ? an unusual combination, to be sure. But the end result is so much fun, I?m sure you?ll have a blast watching it. I know I will.

What is YOUR work like? Let me know by posting below!

Dear Bill,

I haave been waiting for more info on the "Shiva Club". I used to be annoyed at laughter in a shiva house. But, having gone through the process for my mother, I now know the importance of laughter and shared happy memories in easing the emptiness of grief. Be sure to post when you have that project completed.

I do have one question. Do you only give a story outline to your cowriters or are you involved throughout?

Stay happy and healthy!
Janet

I am an Economics major at a Northwest Missouri State University, a full-time employee at Wal-Mart, and I work as an Assistant for the Astronomy department here on campus.

Work has been hectic with the holidays starting up. I work in the layaway department, and everyone (and their dog!) seems to want to put everything we have in the store on layaway. It can be overwhelming at times, but I do love my job.

School has the the hardest thing for me lately. I'm a senior, but I started over last semester. You see, I was a Vocal Music Education major for the last three years, but I was unhappy with it. I decided it was better for me to get a degree in something that would allow me better oppurtunities in the workforce, so I chose to major in Economics and Business. So far, I'm not doing so well. I know nothing of business; I have been submerged in music and art my entire life. The transition has been both difficult and painful. I have no real motivation, except that if I don't graduate with some degree, then I've wasted a lot of money. So I try to stay afloat...barely.

Actually, what I would love to do more than anything is get back into the theater. I used to perform back in highschool, and I miss it terribly. I always thought I was good enough, but I couldn't make a career out of it.

Sorry to throw my soapbox your way, but I've been feeling very down and desperate...any advice would be most appreciated, or even a simple story to brighten my day.

Mr. Shatner, good luck with your projects, I hope to see your name in my store soon!

Sincerely,
Michelle Zoellner

Any chance your play may come over to London? I for one would go and see it.

I also work in the Film Industry as a Script Supervisor. You know the one who usually says very diplomatically, 'You sat on that line', 'No you didn't drink there', 'I'm pretty certain it was in the left hand'. There is never a dull moment at work for me.
I wish you well with your projects, I guess I'll see you in London in January.

I started out working with computers and somehow ended up being nudged into accounting. I don't have anything against accountants, it's just not my thing. I love working with computers and computer programs.

I am going to College part time to get certificates in computer software programs and web design. I enjoy learning how things work. There is great safisfaction in getting the web page to turn out just right.

I find my time at school and my time hiking much more rewarding. I've always wanted to hike and enjoy the outdoors, but never seemed to have time until my daughter moved out. Like you say, "It's never too late." The Bruce Trail runs near my home. This is 735km of fun. I hope to enjoy and photograph a good stretch of it.

Since part of our job is to provide production services to foreign broadcasters covering stories in the US a lot of these broadcasters will be "going live" from our stand-up position throughout the day. Unfortunately we're also finalizing our plans for possible war coverage at the UN and down in DC.

In my spare time I'm writing a young adult book which is taking me forever to finish - which leads me to a question for you.

Bill, your site looks better than ever!

To answer your question, I work for my father( who adopted me) who is quite rich and very generous. I am currently a liaison for him in his many projects around this town and others of course.

The reason I say generous is because he likes to give gifts, not unlike the charity work you do, but a little different. He looks for individuals to give to. It's not always money he gives, sometimes its work, sometimes food, he's into meeting needs. His favorite saying is " Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime." But when he gives, look out!

The cool thing about this job is I don't get the credit. Nothing can go to my head. Ten out of ten look at me and don't even think I'm involved, It's like being a spy. He usually doesn't take the credit either. Not that he can't, he is fairly religious, he doesn't want others to look at him, he wants them to look at God. He often tells me that he is moved to give because he was given so much by God that it would just break his heart if he didn't give. It would too. (He'd probably get miffed if he found out I wrote about him, with my luck he will find out, he has his ways. But I love him so what can I say!) And it's his business not mine, he choses who to give to, not me. I can only suggest, but I've discovered his choices are best.

The bad thing is, open 24hrs a day. He is nice that long and I ain't. But I love my dad and the things he does are cool soooo sometime an attitude adjustment (my own) is called for.

His payment, I ain't rich, (demographic payment method) but he does meet my needs. Fish ya know. "You gotta enough!!" Besides, I'd hate to be rich or famous, as soon as you are, your a target , either for those begging for stuff or for those who will take it. You're hated by people who don't even konw you! You never know who are your real friends! Too much stress for me! Can I choose another job? Yeah, but he's the best boss I've ever had, he honestly cares about me and it's a permanent job. I can't complain.
Besides it's fun and I like having fun on a job!

Gotta go cos Peecard has too, bye.

Paul, I looked at the shop and there was no William Shatner music. I"ll look again, but just in case, do you know where I could possibly find such an item?

I have been with Coast Guard now for 13 years and have received the distinction of Senior Base R/O.
I love my job, fair weather or foul, It is great to think I can be there for any boats that may be in trouble, and I can get help to them through my radio skills.
I am not only there for rescues, but I also check the boats in and out of harbour on weekends, documenting the vessels statistics, and persons on board, and destinations. Unlike your Coast Guard we are not associated with the Government, we are completely reliant on charity, and all crews are volunteers. My current undertaking is coordinating an art project between my Equine Art Guild (the EAG) and The Trail of Painted Ponies project (from New Mexico). We, the EAG members, are going to be painting 6 maquettes (12 x 13" resin horse sculptures, 3 running and 3 in a standing position) that The Trail will be providing. These are a smaller version of the life-size sculptures The Trail has become famous for.

A portion of the proceeds will be going to the artist who paints the maquette, part to the EAG, and part to one of two charities relating to horses. The maquettes will be eligible to be sponsored through The Trail to be made into the larger life-size versions where a majority of the proceeds go to a charity of the sponsor's choosing.

We are currently looking for somewhere to display them when they are finished, which is proving to be a project all by itself! If you would like to see an example of a finished maquette that one of our members painted, you can go to www.wildspiritstudio.com. Dear Mr. Shatner,
I have been both an avid fan of yours plus a silent but curious lurker of this fine site for several months in my quest of discovering the true nature of your outreach and interaction with the public.

And I must admit that based on your integrity and honest personal evaluations that you have earned the respect of yet another admirer.

I thank you sir for your candor.

As for the subject heading of "current projects", my own, would be considered rather eclectic as compared with those of your other members.

I am a paranormal researcher.

My position requires of me to delve at far greater frequency into such mysteries that are in reality quite vast and ever present that both co-exist as well as co-habitat with that of our own.

Ghosts, are ever present and are generally widely dispersed over vast regions geographically much the same as our human population.

And not so surprisingly, you will often find that there will be several quietly living along with the living in almost every residence and business.

The majority of your paranormal investigators such as the likes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, will generally be called upon in investigating your more active specters that for reasons known only to them, have chosen to be more interactive.

Interestingly enough, regarding Conan Doyle's belief in the Cottingley Fairies of which had in time proved to be his embarrassment, may be once more reviewed where this time Doyle's once sterling reputation through my methods of research may in fact be reinstated!

A most lofty statement I know.

And I'm sure few people would neither care.

But the nature of my research has been one of process in creating more revealing photographical evidence of existing ambient and dominate occurring paranormal phenomenon.

Such elements do exist in those photos of the Cottingley Fairies.

And should anyone wish to challenge this notion, they would only need to send me a decent quality jpg. by email, of their own subject, and it will be returned with proof of para phenomenon should any be evident.

My findings on the Cottingley Fairies will be published on my web site within the month of December.

Unfortunately, both my research and findings have been the laugh of many as it has served in raising many questions that have defied our present level of beliefs regarding the paranormal.

But as I see it, if a generation raised on Star Trek, could find such illumination and belief in things outside their own experience through the believable acting skills of such talented individuals as yourself, why would they not find the same through more thought provoking research regarding their own environment.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

I wish both you and your family well my friend.

And may you all live long and prosper.

Mr Shatner:

You asked what my work is like... so at the risk of boring you and your guests, I will comply... though I'd much rather hear the command from Jeri Ryan!

I currently reside in a house built in 1929 in Green Bay, Wisconsin... yes, I've met some of the Packers... though as a rule I've been more impressed with their wives than the athletes themselves... case in point, Mrs. Lofton and Mrs. Starr, though Johnny Gray is a pretty decent man.

I work at home mostly, taking care of my six year old son Lucas, who is autistic. Taking care of him is not as difficult as one might think. He can understand simple commands and sometimes will deign to answer questions, sometimes by speaking, sometimes by American Sign Language, and sometimes by dragging me to whatever it is he wants me to do something with... though quite often he will choose to ignore people.

A typical day begins for me at 4:00 AM when I take Toni, Lucas' mother, to work. Depending on whether or not Lucas' brother is staying with us that week or not, Lucas may have to get up and go with us. We bundle him up, load him into our family steed... a fairly nice '83 Olds Ninety-Eight and off we go... this time of year, in the dark. When we return, as soon as Lucas gets into the house, he takes his jacket and shoes off and heads back upstairs to his bed where I cover him up and let him sleep, hopefully until 6:30 or 7:00. While Lucas is asleep, I work on either my webzine, http://www.thegreenbayweb.com or read the paper, or a book... usually by the light from an Aladdin mantle lamp. They provide plenty of light for reading, and since they burn Kerosene and produce roughly 2500 BTUs of heat per hour, they help out on the heating bills.

Working on The Green Bay Web occupies most of my free time when i'm not caring for my house and/or the occupants of it. I never dreamed that one day I would be able to gather the resources to publish a magazine all by myself, but I did. Thanks, of course, to the Internet and Woody Hughes, who hosts the site on his server. We publish book, movie and television reviews, a religious column, poltical commentary, and stories of local happenings, among other things. Your book, Get a Life, which I discovered yesterday in a box of books, will either be reviewed this month or next, depending upon whether or not I finish it in time. Thus far, The Green Bay Web makes no money... but I have hopes someday... circulation has been growing exponentially... the original eleven have grown to more than a thousand.

When I'm not working on one of these activities, I am generally working in uniform. I am a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Reserve... in the 753rd Quartermaster Company, to be specific, a water-supply company. I quite expect to see the Iraq again soon... and I'm not especially looking forward to it. I spent quite enough time there with a Civil Affairs unit during and after the Gulf War. Other than the oil, there isn't much there that anyone would want... though the mountains of Northern Iraq, the region called by the occupants, Kurdistan, is beautiful country.

Well, I suppose I'd better close this before it becomes a book. I hope that you found something of interest here. If you did, then I can feel that I have given you something back for all that you have given us of yourself all these years. Take care, Captain, and keep your phaser charged.

i work for a long term care center, working with the elderly. i spend 5 days a week making up for the fact that too many of our elderly do not have family available (or able) to take care of them. the good news is that i get to have fun doing this ~ i'm in the rec therapy dept and that means i get paid to play with our residents. i help arrange for social activities and with the holidays coming we are slamming!

if you have a loved one who needs to be placed in a facility for some reason ~ please don't forget them this holiday season. call them, write them, send them a gift and if at all possible, visit them. most of them won't be around for much longer and love you very much!

happy holidays!

Hello Bill,
I have just registered with your site and I was pleased to read that you have some new projects on the go. I had communicated with your fan mail office before by e-mail, and I was told my message was forwarded to your office. I praised your Star Trek books and stated how much i enjoyed the characters and how they lived for me. At that time there had been some talk of a movie or something called Enterprise Rising. What happened to that project?

I look forward to these new projects. Could your fans contribute to the funding of your new scripts?

Regarding your 6 Star Trek novels, I found them extremely moving, I bet they would have made good movies, though it seems some of the ideas are being used in the Next generation movies, slightly revised for Picard etc.
Reading your 6th Novel, I cried openly when Kirks Wife died! Not many books have that effect on me, though perhaps it was because it coincided with the breakup of my relationship with my 1st and only Girlfriend to date.
For a man of 36-37 years old, that's a bit sad I suppose, 36 years to find a girlfriend! Maybe I should have skipped that last 5 year mission Captain !

Would like to express my gratitude at there being people around like you, who put that extra special spark into their projects, be they books, films or just appearances on the TV chat shows.

I hope you do write some more books about the characters from Your Star Trek novels.

Live long and Prosper!

Matthew
