First let me say that I am blown away by the response to the website. We've had hundreds of thousands of hits on the site in such a short amount of time that I am touched and overwhelmed by it all. You all have been so enthusiastic and I thank you for your interest. |
 First let me say that I am blown away by the response to the website. We've had hundreds of thousands of hits on the site in such a short amount of time that I am touched and overwhelmed by it all. You all have been so enthusiastic and I thank you for your interest.
Let me begin our new dialogue by addressing something very important - my interaction with fans during autograph signing sessions. I occasionally sign autographs at conventions; in fact, I was recently in Sacramento where there was a long line of people waiting for me to sign for them. I was faced with a dilemma - do I take my time with individuals or get through the line so hundreds of people will be satisfied? I received some criticism for my brusque behavior on the Trek BBS board (my message board wasn't operational at that time). I have taken the comments to heart, and am now grateful that I have a forum to address them in a more interactive manner.
I'd really like to get your opinion on how to handle this issue. For example, I was in the Mall of America recently, and there were about 3,500 fans waiting for autographs. I tried to split the difference between individual interaction and getting through the line. As a result of your feedback, I've already altered my behavior. I've talked about this issue on Larry King during my February 21st appearance, and I'm ready to continue this dialogue further.
There is a live chat with me and Lisabeth scheduled for Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30 (2:30 Pacific Time). I would certainly be open to further exploration of this issue at that time, as well as any other issues you'd like to address. I am so gratified at your response to the site and am truly looking forward to our getting to know each other using this wonderful medium.
