I've received many wonderful posts about humor and the role it plays in your lives. Although many of you have been through your own painful tragedies, it seems like humor is a universal healing tool. I know that I will always appreciate the role humor plays is my life, and its wonderful ability to salve life's inevitable wounds. |
 I've received many wonderful posts about humor and the role it plays in your lives. Although many of you have been through your own painful tragedies, it seems like humor is a universal healing tool. I know that I will always appreciate the role humor plays is my life, and its wonderful ability to salve life's inevitable wounds.
One of my more recent experiences with humor was the making of the movie "Showtime," with Robert DeNiro and Eddie Murphy. The wonderful part of working with these actors was their complete freedom. We had many spontaneous moments while filming, and I got caught up in them. We ended up doing riffs when this happened, so many of the scenes I'm in we made up as we went along.
 One of the funniest moments came in a scene I was filming with Robert DeNiro (I guess I can call him "Bobby" now). I was supposed to be showing him how to play a "real" cop ala TJ Hooker. So the scene I was in involved dipping my pinkie in some pretend cocaine and sniffing it. The sense memory I used was ammonia, so the look I gave was like someone who was sniffing ammonia. I guess the eyebrow lift I did took him off guard, but Bobby cracked up and couldn't stop laughing. His back was towards the camera and he was facing me, and I had to keep a straight face. I found myself staring at this face I had seen in dozens of movies, cracking up because of something I had done. So I guess you could say I was responsible for breaking up Robert DeNiro (not to be confused with breaking Robert DeNiro!).
I also had a funny moment with Eddie Murphy, when we were filming a particular scene. We began ad libbing a lot of it, and every take was different. I fell into it, due to the fact that I have to ad lib a lot in my life! I'm not sure which take they used, or even if they used the scene at all, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Either way, I had a great time.
