Last week I was very fortunate to be able to share my movie "Groom Lake," with family, friends, and potential buyers when I screened it for them at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. I was very happy to see over a hundred people there, and felt fortunate that I had such a nice venue in which to show the movie. The theater had a digital projector, which is unusual for a little theater, so I was excited that I could share it in a good forum. I stood up and gave a welcoming speech, and then we showed the movie, which received generally favorable response.

For me, it was an especially important event, given what the story of the movie is really about, and the challenges I faced while making it. It's basically a love story, but with a science fiction twist. It talks about love and death and hope, all of which are subjects I'm involved in, as we all are. My wife, Elizabeth, worked with me on the movie and we have dedicated it to both of our deceased spouses. So the film is important to me for emotional reasons.
As far as making the film goes, well, let's just say I was given a budget that was?challenging. I was dealing with many constraints, including locations, schedules and budgetary issues. I also found myself in the role of art director as much as politician, as I had to deal with many personalities! Given the long hours, and the limited crew, I felt that I was up against a lot, so ultimately I felt very gratified to see the end product finally appear on screen.
I am hoping to sell Groom Lake to TV and home video markets. I shot it digitally with these goals in mind, so it mitigates showing it in major theaters. I'll let you know how it goes. Whatever the outcome, I had a wonderful time creating something unique with much personal meaning. What can be better than that?
