Bill, loved you on the horse and in the Captain's chair! As for the rest of it, it was disgusting but as usual you rose above it. I am going to get on my soapbox here for a minute. Comedy should be clever, witty and thought out. Resorting to potty humor shows a stunning lack of talent, as any second grader can make the types "jokes" which were heard at the roast. The people who made the remarks should be humbled and ashamed. I also agree that there appeared to be a lot of jelousy there. You have had a long career which only gets better, and you are obviously loved by millions, me included.

I was horrified at what they were saying. You however, took it like the wonderful man you are. I did not see any reason to use such filthy language. I did love the horse and the Captain's chair, but those lame comedians (term used loosley) really needed to do their homework. I hope your daughters were no where near the place! I can take a joke and a few were funny (yours)but the disgusting connotations were completely un-necessary. Sorry, I watched it. Sometimes it is okay to not see or hear stuff.

Hi Mr. Shatner! My favorite thing about your personality is that you don't seem to take stuff too seriously. And that made the roast great. Andy Dick was squirming at all the "gay" comments thrown his way, but what should he expect? Yes, it was rauchy and at times distasteful, but by loose definition of roast, that's what it was. The comments by your former cast-mates didn't do you any harm. I think and hope they were just doing it in fun. Your singing of Rocket Man did have me on the floor--that was classic. The montage was great. I think you are great in all the movies and TV you have done, perhaps on occasion the victim of a bad story, but your scenes are always worth watching. Lastly, I may have posted this before: Some of the roast jokes were aimed at your "pausing" dialog style. I have barely ever seen you do that and I've watched 99.9% of everything you have acted in. And when you do it, it's not outrageous, it's dramatic--as meant to be. I would call the roast a success, especially the zingers you were giving back at the end. I guess the part of the roast that shocked me the most was Mr. Takei's attitude and seeming lack of respect for Bill. I personally know that actors and characters they protray are 2 different beings and I still am a fan of Mr. Sulu, however, I have mixed feelings for Mr. Takei. It seems Leonard was right and he decided to just pay his respects and have a little harmless fun. As for Bill, well as usual, he was cool, confedent and most of all poised. I am pretty "thick skinned" and I don't get offended, but I must admit I was a little stunned, (about setting #2 on a type 1 phaser!). I also noticed that the roasters were having more fun with the coming out of the closet issue with George than poking fun at Bill, seems you can't really humiliate a good man.

Hi Bill, I spent the first ten minutes of the tape of the show explaining to my sons WHY Leonard (Nimoy) demurred and chose NOT to roast you. I think now they understand. He was quite right (and logical) to do so. While some of the jokes were clever, I found a lot of them too rauchy for my taste, and a number of them extremely offensive. However, I agree you rose above it all. But, really, you were right. What right did some of these no-name characters have to lay the sword at (or dagger, towards you?) Some of these characters seem to eventually get a nice word in, but overall, it was just too nasty. Poor Betty and (esp) Farah Faucett - she took it in the teeth, poor thing. It is OK, I guess. We love you Bill Shatner, and your awesome work on Trek and the Movies, speaks for itself. Those paltry video clips they showed, gave no hint of your brilliant work, and basically ridiculed you, instead of praised you. Live and Learn, I suppose. I can only summarize by saying what I said when I saw that Jason Alexander was going to be the emcee. 'Oh, No! Chris (my son) I have a bad feeling about this roast" I guess I was right. We will all know better next time. Even Sandra Bulluck was not nice. And Ben Stiller, well, he will get his. Next time, invite us from your Shatner and Friends, and we will give you a NICE roast. The Roast was Vulgar and Sophomoric! The notice was that it was for "mature audiences only", but it was the most immature program I've ever had the misfortune to see. I taped it and forced myself to watch it the next evening when my wife wasn't present - it was too embarrassing to watch with her. Please don't put yourself or your fans in that kind of situation ever again.

The roast was vulgar and immature and certainly not up to the standards one would expect for a star of your stature. I don't know how you managed to sit through the whole thing and maintain your composure. If that's the best that Comedy Central can come up with, they're in big trouble. You deserve better.

Mister Shatner, I still haven't watched the tape (I'm a schoolteacher, and it was late for a school night), but after watching some of the teasers on comedycentral.com, and the few minutes I watched after cueing up the VCR, I really longed for, and was fruitlessly hoping for this roast to be witty/ribald like the Dean Martin/Friar's Club roasts of yore. I now hesitate to watch. Oh, well, I'll see it soon, and post. What did YOU think about the experience, Mister Shatner????

Sir, I didn't get to watch it, but I heard about it. I wish that I hadn't. The people who were there to roast you were really raking you over the coals. Shame on them! You and Mr. Nimoy were true gentlemen and you had a back-bone of steel to put up with such trashy behaviour. I'm old enough, barely, to remember the celebrity roasts of the good old days. More than anything, I was embarrassed for the people who used disgusting language (Takei included).
