I've been hard at work on 'Boston Legal' and the wonderful challenge of playing Denny Crane. His character offers several unique challenges for me as an actor.   |
| Playing a man who may or may not be senile and may or may not be joking is a fine line and sometimes it's hard to know where that line is. It's a constant search and I try to find it in my own rehearsals. How to read a line with reality and yet return to the inherent amusement in the scene is an unusual challenge. I'm loving every minute of it. |

Bill, you're doing EXCELLENT work on "Boston Legal!" Denny Crane is easily the most interesting character on the show, and all of us knew that you would do an outstanding job...do two Emmy's and a Golden Globe lie? :D Acting is definitely not the easiest job in the world, but I assure you that you're perfect :) Keep up the good work, see you on Sunday at 10PM!

Something I've always appreciated about Bill's work of late is his ability to capture some very subtle layers in his performance. The character, Denny Crane; the work on his latest album; the commercials - whether it is always intended, no one but Bill could say, but to me, there are manifest layers of subtext ('tween-text?) that speak of transformation...
I was going to list more items, but maybe for me, it comes down to transformation - through time, through self-actualization, and perhaps in spite of an effort to slow things down just a little bit... before all the possibilities - of a life or one of its periods - are exhausted.
Bill, if you're reading this, I appreciate that whatever it is you're doing, it gives rise to some understanding for me. And on another note, my nana (who knows your from pre-ST days) has told me that she used to babysit you when she lived in ontario. Could it be true?

Can't tell you how happy I am to be able to watch you, not only on a regular basis doing new things, but in a part which does you justice. I'm sure that everyone I know had grown quite tired of listening to me whine about nobody giving you serious acting roles which let you give your chops a workout. Not that I didn't appreciate Miss Congeniality and 3rd Rock (especially that funny seeing something on the wing exchange). So I no longer have to fantasize about winning the lottery so that I can bankroll a project and put you in it. And for the record, thank you for all that you do to help preserve the earth.

As I live in England and we do not yet have this programme. II've had to wait until a friend managed to send over a video of the episodes aired just before Christmas. I greatly enjoy the show, the mix of characters and the multi threads that are working through it.
"Denny" is a well respected and admired lawyer, using all the tricks of the trade to reach the pinacle of the profession. But could he be on the "downward" slope? This fine line is beautifully handled, both in the script and the deft handling by a master of his craft.
The younger ones respect and admire all the good qualities and experience of "Denny" but are scared of the decline. Whilst James Spader's character loves, admires AND RESPECTS all the elements of Denny's character and how he is dealing with this time in his life AND THAT IS A MUCH HARDER THING TO DO!
Excellant show, I am eagerly looking forward to my next set of instalments.

It seems like every time their programming department does this, the show in question gets quietly cancelled! Greetings,
Congradulations on your award wins. I must add that watching you play Denny Crane is both pleasurable and hard in that my Dad has Demensia, and on top of that we're just reconnecting. A long story. He gives me great advice and yet at times (not much) says that he's working at the plant making a motor for the company when he's at a nursing home. His illness was triggered by a hit on the head he got while working at Walmart, which admitted this, and yet is not compensating him. Well, enough of that. I've been a big fan of yours since my first Star Trek episode in Sept 1966. I've met and talked with Leonard Nimoy, but not yet had the chance to meet you. Perhaps one day our paths will cross and that will be good fortune. All the best, and God bless you.
