If you've been following my comings and goings, you know I keep a busy schedule. Lately, though, I seem to have been busier than usual.
I'm hoping some of you have gotten to see the VH1 special "One hit Wonders" that I hosted recently. I did the lead-in for each hit; it was a lot of fun to hear which songs were sung by groups that we've simply never heard from again. To tell you the truth, after all one hundred songs, I'd be hard pressed to tell you the names of any of the groups, let alone the names of the songs!
In addition to filming the VHI segments, this last week also had me doing another unusual event. I spent most of my time filming what are known as "wrap arounds" for the Sci Fi channel program, Fright Night. I will be hosting the program, which consists of thirteen two-hour movies. This meant that I had to film the segments where I introduce each movie one after the next until they were all done. The filming added up to four days, each day consisting of twelve to fourteen hour shoots.
Probably the best moments for me were my interviews of some of the great fantasy names in the business, including Stan Lee of SPIDER-MAN fame, and Rodger Corman, veteran producer of many horror films. We discussed what constitutes horror, my thought being that it appeals to the atavistic sense in all of us - what primitive man was most afraid of. For me, the best films are the ones that most effectively harken back to those instincts.
Although the filming was interesting and fun, it was also grueling. It took me to the limits my endurance. I think, if you look closely, you'll be able to see the exhausted version of me towards the end of the four days. Let's hope the rest of the audience doesn't notice!
