I was in Canada for the 4th of July ? and no one paid any mind to America?s celebration. But I was in Toronto for Canada Day and I didn?t celebrate that holiday, either. In spite of the fact that I missed any public celebrations, I am always privately grateful for everything these two countries have given me. I love living in America and if I had been home, I would have fired up my barbeque, had my friends and family over, and whooped it up with the best of them. I hope you all had a happy and safe holiday and managed to see some fireworks, too. |

I must say that being British I don't celebrate the 4th July or Thanksgiving. Just you American cousins celebrate it. So to me I don't see the importance of it. The o­nly thing I celebrate is my Birthday and other peoples and Christmas. And a good old Hallowen night as well.
But I will say that this year we did have some fireworks in our garden for the 4th July, thats because my next door neighbour had her American friend over so we celebrated with her. It was quite a nice night.

Like any holiday, 'the day' is what you choose to make it. Being Canadian, our country's birthday - or 'Canada Day' - is celebrated on the 1st of July, and this year's found my son and I on vacation in the modest harbour town of Tobermory, Ontario. Shortly after dusk, close to 1000 people (many of them American tourists) gathered around the mouth of the inner harbour to watch a fireworks display over the water. After the last burst of pyrotechnic light, a rousing chorus of 'O Canada' began on the outdoor terrace of one of the nearby pubs, and then quickly spread among the crowd like ripples from a rock being dropped into a pond. It was a great evening.

Fireworks laws in Marland were eased a bit for fountain fireworks. My neighbors all bought fireworks or "Illuminaions" and were lighting off in the street. There was a time where I thought there were going to blow up my car but all went well. I LIke the illuminations, and I think the little man should be able to go out and blow things up. Its part of our heritage.

Hey Bill!
Our 4th of July was filled with family, food and fireworks, as usual. My husband decided to hold o­n to a rocket and got a nasty burn o­n his arm, but it is healing nicely now, though there will be a huge scar. We'll forgo the rockets next year.

Wonderful to have news of what you've been doing. No, didn't have any fireworks here in London this year. We are living beside botanical gardens though, and on summer nights there are concerts, finishing off with fireworks displays, which we can watch from our windows. So we did see fireworks this month, just not on July 4th.

Oh yes William, we got to see TONS of fire works:D:D:D
Had plenty of food and had loads of family over for the 4th.
We are a very patriotic family and had Red white & blue stuff all over our windows and I wore my USA eagle Jacket.
Glad you have celebrated the 4th at other times, maybe next year you can do it?

Glad you had a good 4th of July Bill, This was my first 4th without my son. He's in basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He's doing well, learning his skill with the M1A1 Abrams tank. His mom and I are very proud. My ancestry is Canadian too, my maternal Grandfather being an English Canadian. His parents came to Canada and settled. His father, my great-grandfather, died in Germany in World War I. The fourth of July has special meaning to me and many others. I served my country for 22 years, now my son is doing that. I o­nly hope he never is put in harms way, the wish of all parents. Next time you're in Las Vegas, let's bar-b-que. The best to you and yours. Peace and long life.

I was in Canada too. Sarnia, under the bridge, watching the fireworks. Lovely! Also went to London and Windsor. Then when we came back into the US a few days later, the customs agent asked us, in extremely broken English, what country we were from and if we had bought anything. I bought a stuffed animal moose. When I told him I bought a moose, he came unglued and wanted to see the moose in my trunk. I showed him the stuffed moose. Then he said, again in broken English, "that is not a moose - that is a stuffed toy!" I suppose that whatever his native language was, that all toys were toys, and all mooses were mooses. He became very angry at me and frustrated and told me to drive o­n. I wanted to make a U turn and go back to the land of sanity and mooses.
