I don't get it, maybe some of you can help me.

The Democratic party just had their heads handed to them
by the US voting public. What is their response?

The put up for leadership Nancy Pelosi(excuse me if I spelled it wrong, but you get the drift)

I have always voted for both parties, depending on the candidate.
This leadership move tells me the Democratic party is thinking
the voters were wrong and need to come to them. My thinking
is, they just shot themselves in the foot and had better get their
party back to the voters.

Until then, I will find it hard to vote for the Democratic party.

Er, Kilgorn, for the major political positions (senate, congress, governors--I don't have time to look for similar stats on the local levels):

From C-SPAN:

Last updated: 11/11/2002 5:30:05 PM.
* Projected membership based on AP reported results.
House Membership by Party
107th Congress
Republicans 223
Democrats 208
Independents 1
Vacancies 3

vs

* 108th Congress
Republicans 226
Democrats 201
Independents 1
Undecided Races 7

So, Democrats lost at most 7 seats

Senate Membership by Party
107th Congress
Democrats 49
Republicans 49
Independents 1
Vacancies 1

vs

* 108th Congress
Democrats 47
Republicans 50
Independents 1
Undecided Races 2

Again, we are talking about the loss of a couple of seats.

Governors by Party
Prior to 2002 Election
Republicans 27
Democrats 21
Independents 2
?
vs
* After 2002 Election
Democrats 24
Republicans 24
Independents 0
Undecided Races 2

So, Democrats won some Gubanatorial positions

This is hardly what I'd call "head on a platter" type results.

Diane

If you want to argue with my terms, fine.

The Republicans just took over the Senate and
increased their margin in the House in a mid-term election.

I think that speaks for itself.

BTW--the real question.

Seems to me a clear message was sent, are they ignoring it?

Nancy Pelosi is a beautiful choice to head the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives. Wink

Rag451,

I cannot honestly say I do not feel your pain, or your sincerity.

Well, if she wins, I feel that the Democrats will sink even lower down the chain. I think that Henry Ford fellow, I believe that's his name, should take over. He's a bit younger, a bit more idealistic, and a bit more realistic to his cause. He'd stand a better chance at envigorating the party base.

I'll tell you one thing... Nancy Pelosi is such a *good choice*, even we Republicans are rooting for her as Minority Leader...

Here's a naive question, but I'm curious.....
Republicans have the majority, but only
by a few seats, so transfer that into votes needed
to pass any of their particular bills, considering possible abstentia, absenteeism and voting
across party lines (they did that in "An American President", I believe. Wink ), then doesn't it sound more like there's an even playing field,
rather than any dominant voting power?

Well, sure, but then again, abstentia, absenteeism and voting
across party lines would happen to the minority party from time to time too.

I'm sure Sue will correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a "quid" a pound sterling? That's pretty cheap, joains, even the girls at the Platinum Club got $5 a table dance.

a quid could be a pound. A pound can be a also be called a nicker---however my statement was meant as a play on latin words......sorry it was so vague.......as for the comparison to the Platinum club....there are some men, who no matter how much money they have, just don't have whatit takes to get a dance.
