I thought I would update on the poaching situation at my parants house. In case Bill or someone had poaching problems. Basically we have people (Nieghbors.) Go in the nieghbors yard out back or whatever at night with flashlights and squeeze off a few rounds late at night. I assume their shooting deer because we have about 6 or 7.
So heres a list of stuff we been doing. So far no shooting and we are in week 1 of deer season.
The field area I blocked off with cars. Without Access there no way they can drive a truck back there. Deer are heavy and I cant see these people dragging them. If we had more money I could go with a 6 foot chainlink fence.
Signed posted. Posted no hunting or tresspassing. Some of the signs I climbed up on ladder and posted 15 feet off the ground. That way the poachers cant rip the signs down and say it isnt posted.
The area where the deer hang out the dog and I marked as our territory. The deer are gone for now. Mom and I think they have goen into the woods. Which is goog.
Ideas in the planing.
I was thinking about cutting down the nieghbors deer stand.
More dobermans. These would cost more money to feed. Right now I buy my Dog 50 pound bags every 50 days. A puppy eats twice as much.
Rifle? Maybe? Not sure now.
But so far so good. No shooting. |

Just out of curiousity, Star_base_CGI, is this the first time you and your parents have had a poaching problem?
We've been encountering a bit of a similar problem, but the large amounts of hilly and mountain land enable shots to be fired and never heard. In our case, the poachers are leaving the meat of the body to waste and taking the heads. We've talked with the game commision and they've told us that there is a huge increase recently in the Asian demand for deer horn and teeth, and are helping us in the search.
Have you contacted the Game Commission or its equivalent in your area? |

| Sounds like it's time to start setting up some fake deer for them to shoot at along with some cameras to 'shoot' them. Also see about placing small cameras around some no trespassing/hunting signs that are set low to catch them in the act of ripping them down. Those little security cameras are getting pretty cheap might be a worthwhile investment and cheaper than more dogs in the long run. |

We have had a deer poaching problem for about ten years.
One time a man in a red truck drove down the drive way and asked if he could hunt deer. I said no and he said I have a gun in the truck. At which point after working tuff jobs in Maryland I pulled a handgun on him and I said. "I have a gun on me right now, You have to leave now." Well he couldnt argue with that cause his gun was in the truck and mine was in my holster.
Every year the problem seems to geta little worse. Last year someone shot a deer and for whatever reason left it. The nieghbors called the cops and the cops came out and shot the deer two more times.
Weve called the cops and DNR but their all very ineefective. Right now were having police reports filled and maybe taking some pictures of the deer stand and decoys.
Will have to see what hapens. Hopefully God can straighten this big mess out. |
