| Hey! I am happy to say that Diane has gotten a new and better job and will start with 2003. And no it's not in a bar-she's not that Diane. This is good because our friend will remain gainfully employed and because she gets to come to Texas! Congratulations Diane! |

Aw....Nighthawk....it's so sweet of you to post that. Yes, come Christmas I will be moving to the land of big hats, cattle, and makeshift passing lanes (and just in time to miss the bitter snow of northern Indiana).
Thanks again--I very much appreciate the recognition, the support, and the good wishes.

Littlestar and Peg and Augie too,
Thanks very much, you three. It means a lot to me.
The details of the job: I'll be working as a statistical geneticist at a biomedical research foundation. It's a low level position but offers such real world luxuries as paid moving expenses and health insurance. What bliss. Mostly I'll be running statistics on data collected on families with a history of common diseases such as abnormal blood clotting, schizophrenia, heart disease, and other common illnesses. The project is trying to uncover where on chromosomes the genes involved in those diseases are located; they use statistical methods to try to narrow down the locations. One study is centered in Spain, so I'm hoping that even low level workers might have occasional opportunities for travel!
It's very exciting but so unexpected that it still hasn't quite sunk in.

Which part of Texas, if I may ask? |

Phew, the metroplex is still safe. But I envy you being down there at the riverwalk! Oh boy, I do envy you. That riverwalk was pretty the last time I was there. *thinks back to 1989* If you get a chance, go to Sea World! It's a great place. |

One of my best friends lives so close to Sea World that she can hear the seals barking some mornings. I haven't been, but at least I know where it's at!

I went to Sea World in '99, I think. It was a really neat place. I enjoyed it an awful lot. San Antonio is great. About fifty miles to the north, if you ever get out driving, is a place called Enchanted Rock. Try and get there some day. It's beautiful. |

Diane, this sounds like a fantastic job. I loved studying genetics and found it really fascinating. I think it is honorable work that you will be doing, as it will ultimately help to better mankind. Good luck to you. |

tj, Kilgorn, roxy, Paul, Sue, Harry Mudd, Annie, and Aunt Margie,
Thanks so much to all of you. I was sitting at my desk, dreading the prospect of having to tell my current boss I won't be signing a contract with her next semester as she'd planned, and feeling a little down about whether I'm being unprofessional to take a better offer... It's nice to read this and know I have friends on here that are supportive, and who I can always talk to.
Take care,
Diane |
