My solution to a problem is to say, "People, we must move forwards, not backwards. Sideways, not forwards, and always twirling, twirling, twirling..."
Or perhaps, "Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you, not behind you, to tell you something which I know nothing about."
Err...

Well, I was able to test the question yesterday morning, as you already know Peg.
I awoke to spirit showing and telling me that my cat Kewachte was dead on the couch...which got me UP in a flash....went into livingroom and she was puking, everywhere...which quickly went into respitory distress...so I had to blow in her mouth...then it went into insulin shock.....which meant...scoop her up and run to car -to vet...without changing clothes or brushing teeth....got her there to start treatment....and then tests...more tests...more tests....overnight stay....$$$...you all know....
So, I have to stick by what I originally said....
I move to fix the problem first.....and get emotional later...it was 4 hours before the tears started....even then, I chooked back it all in order to be professional and be able to do the medical procedures on the sanctuary cats......
So, maybe, I'm just really in touch with my male side...ewwww... |

The concensus seems to be that, you should not react,
you should respond to a problem.

| I first try to analyze what the problem is and then, based on these perameters, I try to seek a solution. The main goal is to not enlarge the problem by fearing it. My best, Bill |

I rccall vividly how Reader's Digest once purveyed Enrico Fermi's Method (whose wife was Jewish) for solving complex Physics problems: to break them down, analyze them, into simple components.
Make them simple, not simpler. Einstein
Next to Johnny Von Neumann, Bronowski's ASCENT OF MAN rated Fermi one of the most brilliant intellects.
Now that I think of that, I wonder if there is any covert connection between Fermi's approach to problem solving and Ockham's razor: reject the more complicated solutions.
You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it. Dwyer and Einstein |

What I do is not react to the problem. I paws and think about it. when I come up with a solution it is usally something that can benefit all parties involved. Best thing is not to panic or blow it out of porption.
Listen don't prejudge. lend a shoulder not anger.

I'm guessing most people react emotionally
at first, unless you're Spock-like, so do
you have a feeling or a thought or both?
I instinctively get defensive and say to
myself, "You can't hurt me!"....
(I'm not sure who "You" is.. )
How do you react?

If it is a serious problame I usaly think oh **** not again prior to easily solving the problame just like our favorite vulcan(Spock). |

I react to any problem, big or small, the same way. Drastically. I will be the first to admit that I have a problem solving problem. Which is a problem and throws me into a fit again. But seriously. From people dying to losing my lunch card, I freak out. Run into the one corner in my room not occupied by furniture (I'm not that stupid), sit, hug my knees and cry freak out.
And I'll also be the first to admit...that is a bad thing.

Some problems, like those at work (nursing) have definite responses which experience has made almost reflexive.
Problems between people are so hard. One has to take a deep breath and step back to calm the initial emotional reaction. Get the facts. Compare the various ways to react ("there are always possibilities")and anticipate further problems. Choose the one that leaves the most opening for further discussion.
I wish I could say I have great success, but....I'm getting better! |

So you are learning from the problem(s) which I'd say is a great success. |
