Honestly, what are you so afraid of? |
These are a few of the things that make me most fearful:
the erosion of civil rights in the name of "Homeland Security". The roundups that occurred after 9/11, with people being detained indefinitely and in secret, is frightening.
The possibility that if I need to terminate a pregnancy, I am going to have to seek out some hack who is trying to make money to support the drug habit he acquired in med school.
The collusion between the the president, vice president, his corrupt oil buddies, and other corrupt big business types.
The further destruction of the environment at the hands of the short-sighted and self-serving same.
The casual use of smart weapons like the one that just took out the supposed car full of al Qaeda. Have we heard any more about the actual identity of the man we killed that way last year because he was a tall guy on a horse in Afghanistan, and we thought he might have been bin Laden? (other than the fact that he wasn't bin Laden).
The emotionally driven, childish need to have a war with anyone, without thought to the long term consequences in the region. How's our humanitarian program going in Afghanistan? Why don't we focus our resources on being the good guy, instead of running to look for more battles to fight, and then leaving when the excitement is over?
I'm sure that's enough for you to tear into, so I'll leave it at that. Bush and the majority of the Republican leadership make me ill.
Diane |
You sound like a failed DNC commercial. |

Y'know, I spent an hour and a half on those links. I aint letting this thread die out this quick.
Must find controversial thing to say... must... must...
Ah, I know!!
Any chance we can strap Dick Gephardt onto one of these smart bombs? Looks like he isn't going to be doing all that much for the next two years.

We do, and his name is George W. Bush.
Why can't we have smart debates here?

I met George Takei in Memphis, a most theatrical presence, who loves to jog. He is crazy Shatner's MOVIE MEMORIES
I remember watching Charlie Rose interview Chief (don't call me Chief) Rehnquist about Lincoln suspension of habeas corpus, and Jap Amer internment. He remarked how the politicians, not the military, most avidly supported Jap Amer internment. Ironically, Earl Warren was Governor of California at that time, wasn't he? Spock, where are you when I need you?
I was surprised to learn watching Jeopardy or some game show that Canada interned Jap Canadians during WWII |

No I was just attacking your issue, which seemed to me to be an intimation that I am not smart because I think Bush is an IDIOT. (By the way, though I didn't go there, I was accepted at Harvard even without a rich connected Daddy to get me in, because my SAT and ACT scores were both in the 99th percentile.) So since you were asking for smart debate, I figured I'd get smart with you... |

The link that mentioned the whooping cough vaccine being flown in is something I found especially interesting. I've encountered people who believe that Bush controls 'everything' yet I don't recall hearing even a whisper of this on the news. Now if Bush controlled everything don't you think there'd be more mention of things like this?
General impression with todays news is that France did some political maneuvering with the U.S. pretty much pushing any chance of war with Iraq off by a few months just by having a single word changed. I haven't had a chance to find out more about that but that sounds like the give and take that politics is supposed to be. |

I really couldn't care less about your education. I have seen a lot of friends go the way of the high-class university and end up screwball morons. The school you go to measures nothing; rather, it is the education you give yourself through your pursuit of knowledge which matters most.
It's okay if you think Bush is an idiot, because he'll still protect you, he'll still provide for you, and he'll still care. He's a better person than I...

Well, I'd like to know where your proof, laid out in writing, is that will tell me George W. Bush's connection(s) to the big business corruption with which you keep flailing your arms at. So far, I have yet to see it.

Sounds like you've been reading that Lovenstein Institute junk there Bong. Just because he sounds like an idiot doesn't necessarily mean that he is one. Comparing last Tuesday to Clinton's first mid term election might just lead some people to believe that he's a bit smarter than 'ol Slick Willy himself. |

No, we're not there for the sand. We're there to protect ourselves from the weapons of mass destruction that Saddam Hussein and his regime are developing. Anyone that can't see that needs to get a clue. We're not overe there for the oil.
