Tropical depression Katia is now coming off the coast of Africa...and they are saying it could be a hurricane by next week and heading for our coast line...I truly hope not!

| Got a call from my daughter who lives in the town where I work. She is ok but both roads leading out of town got washed out by this storm. |

Found out I'll be out of work for at least 2 months unless the store's boss can help us temporarily find us work at other locations near us.
Here is a screen capture of the damage done yesterday by Irene.

Looks like you guys got it as bad as we did.
Most of the roadways here are in horrible shape. Part of 287, a major thoroughfare collapsed this morning during rush hour due to a damn giving way. Most major highways have damage, and as most here in this state commute, traffic was at a standstill for many hours this morning and this afternoon. My ride in, which usually takes 30 minutes, ended up being an hour and a half nightmare. TG I took the car and not the bike. Too much crap on the roadways to ride safely right now anyway.
There's still 600,000 in the state without power.
And to top it all off on a personal note, my office flooded. I couldn't wait to get back to work, and when I got in the door, the carpet was so wet I almost slipped and fell. I should of known when the hallways had jet dryers blowing as we came in the door. Dammit, I liked that carpet..... |

I was working at a grocery store when Andrew ripped thru South Florida. The store chain did help a lot of employees relocate to other stores while their own store was being repaired, or in some cases, rebuilt.
How are the other employees situated? I wonder if you all got together and asked if you could help in the clean up effort in some way.
Years ago, their was a fire in a restaurant that was next door to a dime store where my mom worked. When it was safe to go inside the store, we helped get things ready for a huge smoke sale. I worked several days and got paid pretty good for a kid.
If anything, could you get temporary unemployment benefits of some kind? |

I was told that there will be outside people coming in to do cleanup. My boss is trying to get us work at other stores near us. Right now there is no traffic coming or going down our road and I had to tell him that there would be no guarantee we could get home (the place he suggested would be over an hour away and we don't know how the main routes are at the moment). |

I am sorry about all that mess, and that is bad that you are out of work too:(
I will pray for protection for you and work too.
Stay safe and be careful!
