Just finished watching The Captains. Recommended for any William Shatner or Star Trek fan. I am glad Bill finally realizes that his role as Captain Kirk did indeed make a difference in this world.

It was funny, sad and a trip down memory lane.

Don't want to give away any more. Enjoy everybody.

I am going to bold here.

I think that somewhere in ST history, Chekov should have been made a Captain.

Do you realize that in all of ST history, there are no Russian Captains? In many ways they were instrumental in making the space program a reality.

And, I just wish that George Takei would get over whatever is bothering him. Although his captain role was shown briefly, Hikaru Sulu and his ship did come to the aid of the Enterprise in ST VI.

OK, I am ducking now. I can feel the photon torpedoes aimed at me right now. Cool

Chekov was promoted to commander and executive officer aboard the USS Reliant...and Bill made him an Admiral and head of Starfleet in his writings...

so that's pretty GOOD..isn't it?

Now if only Hollywood had followed the writings and put it on screen.... Confused Cool Wink

I thought the Reliant was destroyed.

Oh well, Who am I to argue with the Captain of the Enterprise. Very Happy Wink

Actually, one of the reporters in "Generations" called Chekov "Captain". As he was wearing a Captain's uniform jacket with commander rank on it, we all just assumed he was JUST promoted and didn't get his entire uniform yet. (no, it couldn't be because they messed up the uniforms in that movie Wink )

Well now you have peaked my curiousity. I will have to look at the movie and see for myself. I must have missed it. Cool

At any rate, as I posted on one of the other threads, I wonder why there were no purple people on the Enterprise. They missed their chance to solve the mystery of the Purple People Eater. Laughing

And how about that old Sci-fi monster? The flying turtle who got into a fight with Godzilla.

And they could have brought Jules Verne to life in one of their holodecks. I wonder what he would have thought of the Enterprise.

Don't mind me, I just got off a 12 hours work day and my brain is swimming in random thoughts.

Saw "The Captains" on Intrepid last Saturday. Great show, it showed the depth of each of these fine actors and expecially the flip side of show biz. I think people forget that Bill went through terrible financial times in the years immediately following Star Trek. I would love to audit one of Avery Brooks' courses at Rutgers. Adding Christopher Plummer into the mix was very welcome. It was also good to see the their work that manyh are not familiar with although there was no mention of Patrick Stewart's acclaimed one man Christmas Carol.

I actually have an cassette taped version of Patrick Stewart's , "Christmas Carol." I am going to have to see if there is a cd version of it now because my tape recorder is no longer working and the tape itself is starting to wear out. Sad

Thank you very much Bill, for sharing some very personal moments and thoughts, and thank your guests for being so open and personable.

This documentary went way beyond just investigating the characters and professional actors. It shared the real people that are these actors. I enjoyed it very much. It took a lot of courage, in my opinion, and not just Shatner's courage, to put some of these thoughts and feelings on film. I hope this gets some official recognition for the wonderful work that it is. Very Happy
