Jeff Foxworthy's show "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" (oddly enough on FOX) puzzles me. Do they deliberately recruit stupid people to be contestants?
Even allowing for the nervousness and pressure that comes from being on TV, many of the players seem pretty dense. Examples: not identifying Eisenhower as the face on a "silver" dollar, naming Lake Tahoe as the largest lake west of the Mississippi or just guessing that the first planet on which a NASA vehicle landed was the moon.
Some of these contestants are actually elementary teachers. I don't get all the answers right either but some of these folks are shockingly ignorant. None of them could ever be on "Jeopardy!" (unless they sued). |

I think you're right. Just my opinion, but I think they'll pass over (no pun intended) potential contestants if they seem to know too much. I like to watch quiz shows and I can't believe some of the easy questions people miss. I like Alfonso Ribiero on Catch 21 and on two occasions, people passed their cards to another and gave them 21 and the win!! On one occasion, the dealer, Mickey Padilla, wasn't adding properly and was very disappointed when a contestant reached 21. Oops!
Also, some of those 1st and 2nd grade questions seem like they're more for 4th or 5th graders. Good to see the kids are seldom wrong.
Saw Dick Powell in "Gold Diggers of 1933" last night! Dick Powell is an absolute wildman!! |

I watched it a few times, but stopped when I noticed that hardly anyone ever chose one of the Black kids. I won't say any more. |

| On today's rerun from November, yet another elementary school teacher guessed that the Tricentennial will be celebrated in the year 3000! |
