First, I am NOT going to get in a religious fight here, I agree with Paul,
this is no place for it, you aren't going to convert anyone here.

But I would like to make one point......proselytizing

I remember my "West Wing". they loved that word.

It's called the Great Commission in the Bible, it's also called "witnessing".
Believers are "told" to share their witness with others.

I've always wondered the reasons behind the need to change the word...

Witnessing doesn't always mean sharing words. It is showing others by the way we live. It is sharing a loaf of bread with someone who doesn't have enough to eat or offering a kind word to someone who is having a bad day. It is the difference between rolling our sleeves up and pitching in to help during a time of crisis (Katrina, 911) without preaching or judging or trying to put blame on victims for their troubles. It's not so much what we say, but what we do. As a wise person once said, "Anyone knows how to behave in church.... it is when you are going about your daily lives that people are watching to see how you behave."

Too much toilet mouth for me. Sorry Arrow

To each, their own;

Didn't post that link as an endorsement, but merely to show no matter how fanciful, the Internet covers it.

I agree. Cool Which leads me to a great question. I will start a new thread for it though. Wink

Not asking, already knew! Very Happy

Witnessing, whether by words or deeds, should always be lead by the Holy Spirit. The hard part, is knowing when the Holy Spirit is speaking. And while Christians may have the heart of Christ, we're still stuck with these sinful bodies. We may love Christ, but we still make mistakes, usually daily. That's why a nightly talk with God is so important. Not only to repent of our screw-ups of that day, but to pray for strength for the next.

I cannot know whether the person who started the religious thread was lead by the Holy Spirit or not. But I do believe that Christ taught to have respect for authority, and Paul is Bill's authority on this site, so I will do as he says.

It is important to witness with our lives, but sharing of the gospel with others is important. We were told to go forth and tell the good news. Okay, many people get so bogged down with telling people why they are going to Hell, that they never get around to anything else. I don't believe that is what God had in mind......... Wink

I'll end this on that note, in respect for Paul's wishes. However, if anyone, at anytime, would like to discuss this subject further, I am always available on e-mail or by phone! Very Happy

Thank you Greenchick. One thing I learned over the years was the importance of personal quiet time with God and paying attention to my own spiritual growth. There were many well meaning people who tried to force feed me stuff before I was ready for it. I learned to take my time.

And, of course, I am still growing and stumbling and get up. There are times when I think the only way I will get a "Well done," is to get caught in a fire and be crispy well done. Laughing Wink

Author Unknown...well sort of... Wink

A new pastor moved into town and went out one Saturday to visit his community. All went well until he came to one house. It was obvious that someone was home, but no one came to the door even after he knocked several times. Finally, he took out his card, wrote on the back "Revelation 3:20" and stuck it in the door. The next day, as he was counting the offering he found his card in the collection plate. Below his message was a notation "Genesis 3:10." Upon opening his Bible to the passage he let out a roar of laughter.

Revelation 3:20 reads: (Pastors note) "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come into him, and will dine with him, and he with me."

Genesis 3:10 reads: "And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked."

If you want that to continue, go to your religious leaders and demand to be baptized on a daily basis.
