Figured I'd put a stick in the sand, here.
No offense to our new member but honestly when it's easily googlable what faith a celebrity may be yet someone post a blatant message to suggest another religion under the premise of being "saved"...that's where I think a line has been crossed.
I normally don't mind religious types of posts as long as they are of hope and love such as prayer requests or someone who posts a short message of faith in response to someone's bad news post... etc...
What I don't want is proselytizing types of posts; telling people to convert.
That has no place here, imho.

I figured you would step in eventually. I was hoping the newbie would learn from his/her mistake and join us with an adjusted attitude.
Peace has been restored and all is well in the land of Shatnerville. |

Moved or removed, that thread couldn't remain where it was.
And even if moved, it wouldn't have made any difference.
In a Bill specific thread, his response is the only relevant response and there's no chance he'll ever post in the Political Arena.
I base that on,
Bill has 530 posts: 16 listed (requires login), 10 listed in this forum, 6 listed in Archives and 0 listed in the Political Arena.
__________
"The answer to your question in simple: Kirk just wanted to get laid.
My best,
Bill"
-- Bill's response to thefreshjedi question about Kirk's discussion with Saavik regarding General Order Number 15 |

I'd like Bill to post in the Political thread. I'll bet he can dice and slice with panache. N |

It would be interesting if Bill posted controversial positions in our Political Arena.
And suppose he did.
I submit to you that would be unwise.
Here's why:
Bill's a practicing professional actor. Practicing professional actors need fans.
Since it's our Political Arena, there are fans who'd passionately agree with Bill, and fans who'd passionately disagree with Bill.
For fans who passionately agree, there's no gain. They're already fans.
For fans who passionately disagree, there's risk. If they disagree strongly enough, they're no longer fans.
Hence, Bill risks losing fans; most unwise for a practicing professional actor. |

A Star ship captain is also a diplomat. My prediction ...
Mr. Shatner would bring careful thought and civility to our political arena. A rudder to steer our ship through choppy seas.
As one who makes waves - I'd appreciate and respect a "truly" calm hand on the wheel.

You're right about Bill - 100% correct.
But it isn't Bill who concerns me, it's his fans.
Do you remember why the Political Arena is now a separate forum?
When it came to religion and politics, we didn't play well together. |

So true. Especially when it comes to politics, it's just better if we play with ourselves. |

Yeah, I sure would not want to see anyone jabbed with a flag pole or conked on the head with a statue of liberty replica. |

But that's pre-1920's Mack Sennet comedy!
There were times when I had a strong desire to post something that was anti-religious. Oh, but that's just an invitation for someone to claim they were offended. I just wanted to say something like, "There is no such thing as sin" and "Jesus was an alien". Silly, fun stuff!!! |

Big words like 'proselytizing' make my head hurt, so anything that causes them to be used can't be good...

First, I am NOT going to get in a religious fight here, I agree with Paul,
this is no place for it, you aren't going to convert anyone here.
But I would like to make one point......proselytizing
I remember my "West Wing". they loved that word.
It's called the Great Commission in the Bible, it's also called "witnessing".
Believers are "told" to share their witness with others.
I've always wondered the reasons behind the need to change the word... |
