For a couple of days now I have been hearing about this "Farrah snub" but not really knowing what is was about since I certainly wasn't about to torture myself by watching the entire Oscar broadcast Sunday night. From 8 to 10 Sunday nite I was watching "The Oscar" on TCM with Stephen Boyd, Tony Bennett, Elke Sommer, Eleanor Parker and Milton Berle. Never miss it! Stephen Boyd as Frankie Fane is an absolute hoot! Boyd's Fane makes Paul Newman's Hud look like Lil' Abner! It's a much underrated flick that I never miss. So I missed the annual Academy Awards "In Memoriam" montage....which excluded Farrah Fawcett and....Gene Barry! Fawcett I can understand but to exclude Gene "Dr. Clayton Forrester' Barry is one hell of an oversight! Apparently the Academy has fallen into the hands of people who are not knowledgeable...about their industry. Omitting Barry is indefensible...Grade A Doofuses.

I mean why in the hell would you exclude Gene Barry? He certainly appeared in enough movies early in his career before television to rate being included in the in memoriam segment. Barry should have been included on the strength of George Pal's 1953 War of the Worlds alone! I mean what is this!? Who's running a.m.p.a.s.? MTV twentysomething freakazoids!? I mean I know that's the only age group today's Hollywacked-off really cares about but come on! What about Hollywood's splendid past and the millions of americans beyond the age of 20 who still remember it?

I mean Gene Barry only starred in one of the most significant science fiction motion picture epics of the 20th Century, that's all! Is this an example of the caliber of individuals running the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? To disregard somebody as notable as Gene Barry. I mean where is this headed for? Refusing to acknowledge the cinematic contributions of anyone who appeared on film before...say 1990? I mean how in the world could they possibly elect to overlook Gene Barry?

I have no idea who you are talking about, but I am posting so that you won't seem to be having a conversation with yourself. Cool

it's not a conversation... it's a rant.

A conversation implies a willingness to listen to the other side.

I see. You're totally unfamiliar with the annual Academy Awards "in memoriam" montage segment where they show clips of all the movie stars who have passed away during the past year. Laughing

Now, where was I..oh yeah..and now that I have thought about it...Farrah Fawcett should have been included too! Yes she was primarily a TV personality but she did appears in some movies as well. What about Stanley Donen's Saturn 3 where she starred along side Kirk Douglas no less! Yeah! Farrah Fawcett should have been included too. Just goes to show what kind of mental midgets are running the A.M.P.A.S.

Yes, I am familiar with the "in memoriam" segment often shown at the Academy Awards show. I just didn't watch it this year.

I did see in the news about some people being left out which made some folks angry and upset.

I wouldn't be a bit surprise if it turned out that family members and friends had to actually pay the academy something to include their loved ones in the memorium..... Sort of like those famous stars on Hollywood Blvd are bought by family, friends, and sometimes fans.

Anita Page was forgotten by the Academy in 2008. How many actors had a career ranging from 1925 to 2009 (Frankenstein Rising)?

Morgram, for this Shatner get together, I'll cross the Walt Whitman and pick you up. You can be Paul Newman and I'll be Steve McQ.

Kangarooing through ideas hoping to ascertain a modicum of coherency...

AMPAS: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Oscar: staring Stephen Boyd, Tony Bennett, Elke Sommer, Eleanor Parker and Milton Berle.

"Boyd's Fane makes Paul Newman's Hud look like Lil' Abner!"

In Memoriam montage...

Nope, no way, no how, absolutely no coherency whatsoever:

Yes, AMPAS makes many serious mistakes, both addition and omission.

But you, morgram, committed the ultimate faux pas...

The Oscar:

You omitted Ernie Borgnine and Jack Soo!

It was a lackluster show. The stage settings were cheesy, the break dancing was annoying and they didn't give Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin enough time to crack jokes. It was disappointing on many levels.

Yep, AAMPAS is on a downslide into possible oblivion.

As for the obits, both Barry and Fawcett should have been included. I'm guessing that AAMPAS somehow just got stuck with an inept producer and a bungling director this year.

I recorded it for posterity anyway.

I'm surprised people mentioned other actors, but forgot about Anita Page. A career that spanned 8 decades! 1925 - 2009!! How could they forget about that? Willy Loman.

Anita Page did a great job in Speedway. And good ol' Karl Dane. Morgram likes that guy, I know that!

I forgot all about him! Ricardo Montalban!...of course! How could they leave him out? When they start screwing up this badly then it is time for America to STOP watching.

So they left out Ricardo Montalban, one of the premiere latin actors of Hollywood cinema like Fernando Lamas or Gilbert Roland. A.M.P.A.S. = Grade A foul-ups.
