Well our first adventure begins today, we drove to Sydney and have checked in at the Jet Star (a Qantas Airline) and we fly first to Darwin then on to Saigon. Never been to Veitnam so it should be interesting. Waiting in the Qantas Club ATM.

I used to do some pretty big jumps but now I tend not to do to big, I do love tree skiing, the normal runs get a little dull.

Now the kids grew up and left I think I will slow down more, I won't have them to lead me astray and you can't ski gullies alone, to dangerous.

This is a non skiing trip but the Japan one is skiing

My nephew recently joined the military and I'm kind of worried about him getting sent to some place like Afganistan where he would be in mortal danger.

We arrived last night at 9:25pm and had disembarked and cleared customs in less than 10 minutes, such an efficient airport, makes LAX look bad took us over an hour there.

Today we did a tour of Siagon which was great just the two of us with a driver and tour guide, I find the Kaos here charming, the Asian countries are fantastic, I love spending time in the street stalls and shop houses. We are off to dinner tonight and then the water puppet theatre which was on the last Amazing Race if you watch that.

Tomorrow we are doing a cooking lesson where we go to a market and then pick out the ingredients then head off and use them in the cooking lesson. Sounds fun.

Sorry no photo's I havent even got my camera but thats pretty typical of me, I prefer to experience things more than take photo's I enjoyed the cooking today, we were their with an Aussie couple from Melbourne and prepared a three course meal.

I went to the Siagon Warf today to buy Hydrofoil tickets to go to Vung Tau tomorrow.

Mum call Dean Thompson and tell him to fix the Bore if it can be done for under 1000.

The traffic here is amazing 10 million people with 6 million motor cycles, imagine in tersections with hundreds of bikes and cars crossing in all directions at the same time, I have no idea how they do it but it works, crossing a road is fun you have to walk through the traffic and they drive around you, on a really busy road I paid a rickshaw guy to walk over with us with his bike controling the trafic as we went, for 10,000 dong (about 65au cents well worth it.

You can tell the vietnamese have more money than those in China, few push bikes and the motor bikes are mostly newer models. You still see mum dad and two kjds on a single vespa

I have always wanted to travel the world. I have always wanted to skydive. I have always wanted to deepsea dive with scuba gear. And, basically I just want to climb Mount Everest in a matter of speaking.

I grew up on the beach in Corpus Christi Texas.

I am optimistic.

Sincerely,
Skianbeerfist Very Happy

Do you like sand?? Sometimes, I feel like I have sand in my joints. I hope it's not arthritis.

Well it was really hard to log onto this site in Vietnam, I had the same problem when I was in China for some reason, I suspect the banners make it a hard page to load on slower networks.

We had a great trip, where we did everything mentioned before plus a night dinner cruise on a beutiful Junk on the Saigon River, the food was excellent and the entrtainment fantastic.

We did a trip to Vung Tau 120km from Saigon, you travel via high speed Hydrofoil ferry and it takes about 1.5 hours each way. Vung Tau is a costal area on a peninsula where the Australian troops had their main base in the war, all over Vung Tau today you still find Australian named bars and hotels and signs with Kangeroo's on them, we ate at Tommy's which had Aussie food and a huge Aussie flag over the bar. At Vung Tau we also visited a monestary, two temples and some historic buildings etc. I even found one of only three Geo Cachese in this area, my first over seas cache.

We then did a full day tour on the Mekong Delta, we were driven there and traveled on the river by SanPan boat, we had lunch at this very colonial french style building.

So our last day was spent around Saigon, the people were great, they are very welcoming and friendly and look content and happy in their lives. We were disapointed with the rubbish in the rivers and how some areas looked so dirty while others you could see much care was taken.

For a quick stop or short holiday it was a great location, the Windsor Hotel is in China Town and was a great five star base, it had a free shuttle every hour and when this was not convenient the Taxi's were great and cheap. There was a huge number of tourists from Finland and Germany there and of course a growing number of Aussies now we have direct flights.

Would I go again, probrably not but only because there are so many more places to see and go to.

A well worth while and enjoyable trip.

Now for Japan in two weeks time Very Happy
