Thanks to Rupert Murdoch & his NewsCorp organization, I haven't been able to watch football today. We no longer have Fox 5 (No Glee for the wife & kids, No HOUSE for me...NO NFL)
Here'e the facts:
•In an act of corporate greed, News Corp has pulled FOX 5 and My9 from your Cablevision channel lineup. This is an unfortunate attempt to get unreasonable and unfair fee increases from Cablevision and our customers.
•Cablevision currently pays 70 million dollars per year for News Corp's programming (which includes channels such as FOX 5, My9, FOX Business Network, National Geographic Wild, and FOX Deportes), and now they are asking for more than 150 million dollars for the exact same programming – no new programming, just another 80 million dollars per year for News Corp.
•Cablevision has reached agreement with every other major broadcast station, including CBS, NBC, ABC and Univision. But News Corp is demanding more in fees for FOX 5 and My9 than Cablevision and our customers pay for all of the other broadcast stations combined!
•We think in these economic times that this is outrageous, especially since FOX 5 and My9 are available for free over the air, and they make many of their most popular shows available for free on the Internet.
•News Corp has pulled the plug on their most popular programming, holding viewers hostage until their unreasonable demands are met. NFL Football, the MLB playoffs and World Series, House and Glee are just a few of the programs that News Corp is depriving their viewers of in an attempt to bully us into accepting their unfair demands.
•Cablevision is willing to accept binding arbitration from an independent 3rd party to settle this dispute. We call on News Corp to accept binding arbitration, and to put FOX 5 and My9 back on the air for our customers until we can come to a fair agreement.
•Connecticut customers, please note that this only affects FOX 5 and My9, and does not affect WTIC-Hartford (channel 25) and MyTV9-New Haven (channel 24). Fox programming on WTIC and MyTV9 will continue to be available and is not subject to disruption.
•You can make a difference in this dispute. Call
1-877-no-tv-tax or send an e-mail and tell News Corp it is unfair to hold their own viewers hostage to get what they want.
What the hell do they think they are doing trying to get an 80 million dollar a year bounce? What's that all about? Most people can barely pay the cable bill as it is! I can't imagine if the cable company gives into them what our bills will go up too. Dammit I'm pissed. |

From a guy on the Braves Board...
Guys, c'mon. Go out and get an HD antenna and you'll get many of these games. I keep laughing in NYC because 2 of our stations Cablevision won't provide, but I keep watching thanks to my handy HD antenna. You keep hiking those prices, Fox. See if I care. I'm not paying 'em.
Capt...
I don't know if you have HD, how much an HD antenna would cost,
or if this is because he lives in NYC, just thought I'd pass it along if
you can use it... |

That's a great idea. I just called my brother in law, an engineer at AT&T, and he said the equipment is only about $120.00. If they don't resolve this soon, I may be taking a ride over to Best Buy. F* Rupert Murdoch.
Thanks Gorn.
Sure beats sitting in my car all day listening to the games on Sirius...... |

Here's a significant piece of the puzzle that was omitted........
----------
News Corp. and Cablevision have pinned blame for the stand-off on each other in a blitz of public relations. Cablevision is running a scrolling announcement on the Fox stations, explaining its position and blaming News Corp. for the blackout.
Fox, meanwhile, took out advertisements in local newspapers and launched a website, KeepFoxOn.com, advising Cablevision subscribers to switch to pay-TV providers in order to keep watching Fox programming. The company said Cablevision paid itself and charged other pay-TV companies more for its own channels, MSG and MSG Plus (which like Cablevision is controlled by the Dolan family), than all 12 of the Fox Channels they carry, even though the Fox channels enjoy significantly higher ratings.
For its part, Cablevision temporarily lost access earlier this year to programming in similar negotiations with the Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) ABC network, as well as the Food Network and HGTV channels, which are owned by Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. (SNI).
-----------------
Looks like Cablevision is doing this to themselves........... continually. |

I'm not sure who to blame here, and I'm sure as hell not taking sides. All I know is there's 2 f'ing billionaires out there having a pissing match, I pay my bill every month on time, and a hefty bill at that, and my family still isn't able to watch our favorite shows.
Like I said, corporate greed at it's finest, whether it's the Dolans or the Murdochs. And I know it's just TV, but it's something in the hum drum of the everyday to look forward to. That's what makes this all so unfair. It's the little things that sometime make our lives more bearable, like getting the family together for a night of favorite shows or a good football game.
I don't have a yacht to go off to. |

Sounds like they are shooting each other inthe foot and the subscribers are the ones losing out while the Corporation gets more money!
