Are there any other Chicago area Star Trek fans who where supposed to go the the William Shatner meet and greet Expo at the Portage Theater on Sept 4th 2009?? ( http://www.startrekchicago.com/ ) This event was canceled last minute and refund were supposed to go out. I have been in contact with some member of "Prestige" who set up the event and it looks like us fans may never get our refunds. Is there anyone else out there who was robbed by these people or anyone who can help out???
Here is an email i Received from Prestige below:
Kevin,
Although we are incorporated that doesn't mean we are rich. We took a $6000.00 loss on the entire event. We still owe alot of people including yourself. It is our intention to pay each person off one by one as we can afford to. The Shatner people come first, ahead of all the publications we owe for advertising.
We owe approximately $3800.00 in Shatner refunds.
The form you signed clearly stated 90 days, and the letter accompanying that form stated the refund processing would not begin until after the Sept 4 and 5 2009 event.
In all honesty unless something changes for the corporation we will have to file bankruptcy, in which case you will probably never see a refund. I can guarantee if anyone attempts to file suit against us, Shatner people or other companies we owe money to, we will file for bankruptcy.
On a good note, there is a website that clearly slandered us. We believe that website contributed to the failure of the event, and the low ticket sales for William Shatner. This caused us a loss, and a loss for yourself. We are in the process of filing a lawsuit against that website. Any settlement from that suit would be applied to the people that are owed refunds. Of course court actions can take years.
It is our intention to pay every Shatner holder back for their purchase, however, I cannot place a timeline on it. It is our hope to pay everyone back by the end of this year. However, it might be longer than that. If anyone tries to sue us, we will claim bankruptcy for legal protection. Kevin, at this point our company has $5.00 in its bank account, that's it. The shareholders are struggling to keep it alive. People owe us money also, and we have to go after them. It's just the way it is

| well the reason they canceled according to the company itself was due to low ticket sales. I was told that they only sold about 30 some tickets for a meet and greet with William Shatner. They told me they needed to sell 500 tickets to pay for William Shatner's fee's. I put no blame on Mr. Shatner. I am still upset that i didn't get to meet him. But really how can you F that up. You have a meet and greet with William Shatner and you only sell 30 some tickets????? this company Prestige www.theimagesagency.com They are the jerks here. They keep telling me that I agreed to wait 90 day for the refund check but i didn't agree I had no other choice, and now they are telling me that I may never see my money. Tickets were $80 and I got tickets for my whole family. Shady dealing. |

So I got a new email from "Prestige Entertainment" today, here was my reply to them and his comment below that. enjoy.
Me below:
I would prefer to get updates either over the phone or my email from you directly. after all it is my money you took as a "loan". I prefer a more hands on information sharing. And i didn't agree with a 90 day refund. I simply had "no other alternative" are you pulling a Khan on me Daniel. Seems to me Prestige can very easily be cast as Khan noonien singh and his followers. Are you the bad guys Mr. Bruening???? I then (and other Chicago Shatner fans) are obviously Admiral Kirk and the crew of the enterprise.

Check startrekchicago.com, any updates are there. Always refresh your browser, I am hearing sometimes newer updates don't show on everyones browser.
I am in communication with the Portage Theater about your message to them.
I have informed them of the refund policy that you agreed to on the refund form that states 90 days.

I don't know if you have a small claims court like we do in Quebec. But I have been very successful recuperating losses of under $500 in SCC (not to be confused with the Supreme Court of Canada... the other SCC).
In every case (4 total) I've won with interest and expenses for filing.
I'm also batting 100 in over 40 cases at the Regie du logement du Quebec (Rental Board). I used to manage 3000 units for my father-in-law before he became my father-in-law. |

Case in point for my 500 rule. Just think that by posting this here, how many people know what happened. If they continue to do business in that fashion, they will soon have NO business to run.
Oh well, if you really want to meet Mr. Shatner, consider coming to a WSW (William Shatner Weekend) that is held every year during the last week of April. This is the same weekend of the HCHS (Hollywood Charity Horse Show). You can get a nice photo with da Man, along with a group shot of the fan club participants with Bill and one of his horses (well, this year it was with Bill and his lovely wife Elizabeth).
You can get more info from the Fan Club (look on the side panel and click on "Fan Club" for details. There is a small fee for joining, but it is well worth it.
At any rate, I hope things work out for you. Let us know the outcome if you can. |
