If Bernie Madoff wants to make himself a sacrificial lamb to protect the rest of his cruddy relatives from prosecution then I say...good! Throw the bum in the klink for a hundred years.

and whilst he's about it, take every single penny off any family member even remotely connected with that firm. There is no way they didn't know exactly what was happening, in order to carry on the scam as long as they did, it takes many many people. All the money should be given back to the investors he/they scammed.

Hope anyone near and dear to my heart didn't get caught by this scumbag.

Hart

Big whoop Madoff was sentenced to 150 years. This guy is going to die keeping his secrets because the bums that prosecuted him are just as impotent as the regulators who let him get away with it for decades.

Where’s the money? Who are the accomplices? Ruthie threw him under a train so it's hard to believe she doesn't know where some of the green is stashed. And don't think for a minute it was just Mr. Ponzi making hay. Some of the people who gave their money to Madoff early - got it back and plenty more. They're accomplices too because their profit is loot.

Umm.. You know that he's 71 years old, right?

He got the equivalent of a life sentence - which was the exact intent of the sentence in the first place. He will die in prison. (as he should)

Yeah, but Nostromo -- There is now a very steep precedent set to face any future scammer of this ilk.

That ^ was the other point to the 150-year sentence.

Bernie wasn't gonna give anyone else up, anyhow, no matter what.
And don't foolishly believe what he wants you to belive - that Ruth threw him under the train... That was set up long before he got caught. Of course she knows a lot aboutwhere a lot of the money is! But without proof, she can't be prosecuted. Ditto the rest of their family bums. Madoff knew exactly what he was doing: His scam couldn't have lasted nearly so long if he didn't, and he pulled it off beautifully (meaning his family is 'safe').

The worst that can happen to him, now, is for his wife to not be able to find a place to rent. If he knows she's out on the streets, maybe it'll hit him where it hurts. She's claiming publicly that she can't find an apartment to rent coz no one will rent to her. Awwwwwwwww. Watch me cry big crocodile tears for her. Not! Nobody in this area has any compassion for her. Anyone hereabouts that wasn't personally screwed by Bernie and his family knows someone they care about who was.

We lost some money. We didn't lose it all to him coz we didn't invest everything we had in any one investment. Thankfully, God gave us more common sense than, apparently, He gave most folks in this area. We did lose almost everything we had, thanks to the economy, and the rest of it was spent staying alive before hubby's unemployment kicked in.

And he also may have a lot of money stashed away, he also knows finances and how to con people for billions .... he might be worth protecting or maybe he can do the guards taxes or finacial advise or just to learn how to steal in the modern world and have people turn a blind eye. Trust me this guy will have very soft soap.

There were steep precedents established prior to Madoff's sentencing. Two in fact in the U.S. in the last decade alone. One sentence was for more than 800 years.

Listen I'm not arguing for a second that Madoff shouldn't rot in jail until he's dead. Personally I hope he breaks a record for longevity.

My point is, the oversight and regulatory establishment failed again and in the Madoff case, it was repeated failure. No fewer than half a dozen official investigations over a period of decades and each time they draw a blank. That isn't incompetence it's complicity. Those people need to swing too but they won't. Until that happens, two thousand year sentences won't matter because there will be plenty of future Mr/Mrs. Ponzi's out there who know they may be able to beat or BUY the system.
