Hello Bill! I just finished reading your new book, and I must say you did an incredible job, as always. I finished reading it in a record two days, as I could not put it down! In fact, I was up at 2am this morning reading the last few pages. I was very disappointed when I ran out of pages Confused , in fact, I was overjoyed to see the Epilogue... Wink But of course, all good things must come to an end, and I finished the Epilogue not long after that. I look forward to your next book, "Captain's Blood" (yes I even read the little end page at the end of the book), seeing as now I have to find out the end of the story! I certainly hope it doesn't take TOO long to write. Very Happy I have certainly enjoyed all of your books (mostly the Star Trek ones, I must admit) and "Captain's Peril" did not disappoint. It was very well done. I especially enjoyed having a TOS story mixed in with the rest of the "present day" adventure. It was like having two books in one! Thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of us non-talented people, and for using it to keep Captain Kirk alive and kicking (literally Wink ). You're certainly the one to do it. Thanks again! Until next time...We must look inside ourselves for the answers to our past, while reaching to the stars for questions to our future...
Steph

That went to the bottom awfully fast...I hope Bill gets a chance to read this before it disappears. Sad

It took me forever to find this post again...it was like on the bottom of page 3. I wonder if Bill has read this yet?

I have only read a few of Bills books, and I thought that Ashes Of Eden was excellent. But Preserver, I thought, was a little cheesy in places.
As you can tell Ive hardly read them in the right order, or even properly, but from what I can tell Bill tends to give Kirk a little too much of the action.
Maybe its just me. Though he is a very fine, and talented writer.

In The Return, what happens?

I'm in the middle of reading Captain's Peril myself and so far the book is outstanding. Mr. Shatner is not only a talented actor but a writer as well. I've read every book he's wrote about the return of James T. Kirk and none of them have let me down. Only Mr. Shatner could tell stories such as these and it keeps up with all the Star Trek movies and TV shows regarding as to what's going on in the 24th century. I remember when I found "The Return" on bookshelves I knew I just had to have it and when I got it I could hardly put it down. Now I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie but I am a fan of Mr. Shatner and of James T. Kirk and I love the Star Trek series and I hope to see many more books from Mr. Shatner and many more Star Trek shows and movies for years to come.

StarQuestarian: The Return takes place right after Generations, and basically, the Romulans and the Borg have signed a peace treaty so that together they can destroy the Federation. Their tool is the reanimated Captain Kirk, brought back to life with nanotechnology, sent out to kill Captain Picard. Great storyline...lots of Borg, with a surprise ending! Enjoy reading it... Very Happy

Jel:
Captain's Peril came out at the end of September, and yes it is the follow up to Preserver. Welcome to the board Jel!

Steph

PS- Nighthawk...thanks!

The book came out in October, and yes, it is a follow-up, but you don't have to have read any of the other books to enjoy it! My best, Bill

That's pretty much true.

All you need to know are the following:

Just before the events on the Enterprise B, Kirk met a woman whom he fell in love with.

Kirk was brought back from the dead for the sole purpose of finding and killing Picard.

With the help of Spock, that plan was thwarted.

Spock, McCoy and Scotty are still alive and well.

Since the woman Kirk fell in love with was part Romulan/part Klingon, she was still alive as well.

Kirk reunited with her, and they got married.

They had a son.

Kirk and Picard had a few more adventures together and though their styles were different, they became good friends.

Kirk's wife was killed in their last adventure together.

2 years have passed, and Kirk and Picard decided to take a vacation together.

Begin Captain's Peril.

Thank you for that wonderful background on the past...6? books.

Bill:
Thank you for reading this! It made my day. Very Happy

No problem. Obviously, I left out a hell of a lot. Just gave basic info of what you need to know to read Captain's Peril.

The first 6 books were incredible, and worth reading. They are the best Star Trek in the last 15 years. Even better than some of the TOS movies. They really encompass the whole Trek universe.

Of course, I still want to see Kirk appear on Enterprise.

I would like to see that as well...have you voted on my poll yet?

Probably. My views on Kirk's return are clear. I support the Bring Back Kirk campaign fully. I want to see a full Kirk return in canon.

It can still happen. All Paramount has to do is ask.

Crambam:
I totally agree! In fact, I think that the next movie they do should be something where Kirk returns to save the universe... Very Happy They would make soooo much money on that.

Hmmm. Well thanks for answering that. But what turns Kirk from bad weapon of the Borg, to good Captain again?
And where did Scotty end up after his return in Next Gen? Where did Spock or whoever get him?
I read Preserver, and yes thought it was very good, but I also thought that in places it was too much.
It lacked the charisma and true entrigue that other ST novels have had.
I think that if Bill does another (And I should think that he will since he obviously gets great enjoyment from their conception) then it should be a little slower paced, with something that conforms a little more to the schemes and ideas in the original series.

By the way, that reminds me. You all know that rumour that after ST: I, Gene wanted to do one where the crew foil the plot to kill JFK, only to find that they must indeed kill him if the future is to take place at all, and somewhere in it we find Spock on the grassy knowle? (Or something vaguely like that.) It was mentioned in STAR TREK MOVIE MEMORIES.
Anyway, has that been written yet?

Scotty wasn't in the first trilogy at all. They felt it was too much of a coincidence. He didn't appear until Spectre.

StarQuestarian:
You asked a lot of questions! Let me see...good old Bones ends up being the one to turn Kirk back to his old self, if I remember correctly. And yes, Bill has done another...that's what this whole post is about. Captain's Peril takes place after Preserver, and it is a lot slower paced than Preserver. I think you would like it! And about the rest, I don't believe that was ever written, or that they are even considering it. I really doubt it, since Gene is no longer around. I hope I answered everything! Thanks again!
