Sarah Palin, a former runner-up in the Miss Alaska beauty contest 1984, burst on to the political scene in 2006 by becoming both the first female and youngest governor in Alaskan history at the age of 42. During the election it was revealed she was under investigation by state lawmakers over alleged abuse of power.
An Alaskan through and through, Mrs Palin grew up with a love of traditional outdoor pursuits, and is still a strong believer in gun ownership. She is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Before entering politics she had a number of unconventional jobs including sports reporter and commercial fisherman, the latter alongside her husband Ted, who is a Yupik Innuit. In the wake of the election, she has emerged as one of the party's most recognisable faces. A recent survey by Newsweek magazine has named her as a leading candidate for the party's nomination in 2012.
The McCain-Palin ticket proved ultimately unsuccessful, but many believe there may be more to come from Sarah Palin. "We can all look forward with great interest to her future service to Alaska, the Republican Party and our country," John McCain said as he conceded the election.
==============================================
So what's next for Palin, another shot at the White House perhaps, or do you think that she's made too many mistakes, and blown any chance she might of had
Thoughts,? |

| I hope she gains the Republican nomination for 2012. That will guarantee two terms for Obama. |

what next for Palin? hrmmm... well, right now her reputation is in tatters and that can be hard to come back from, (albeit not impossible).
And she has Imelda Marcos syndrome.
I'm guessing... a tell all book? "My Life as a Veep Wannabe?" or perhaps "Vice President for Dummies?" or "How to shop with donated funds?" "Whitehouse or Bust" or Presidents don't make passes at Governors wearing Glasses?
Coming soon to a Dollar Store near you.
ok, that was all unkind but I had to vent somewhere. |

Although I'm sure that some of the allegations may be blown out of proportion, its hard to believe all of them are untrue.
Afterall, where there is smoke there is fire.
I have to say that her stance on everything from abortion, to gay marriage, to her evasive answers during interviews gave me the impression that she was woefully underqualified.
Compared to Hillary Clinton, she seemed very lightweight. |

| I'd bet that she will become a preacher and "spiritual leader"- and the things she would say would be considered crazy if they actually made it before the public. |

I follow the media around here a bit as I have a fair knowledge of some local happenings (I'm involved in a few), including some sports. Time and time again I am disappointed and ticked off at what passes for "Freedom of the Press" these days.
My high school news paper could take just about all of them on from what I've seen. They are full of errors, enough of them are intentional. They deliberately mislead you to believe what the columnist is writing, and this is NOT on the opinion/editorial page. They break many of the foundational rules of good journalism (particularly as it pertains to not injecting your opinion into a piece).
When they can't get local news right, and when they can't even get the sports page right (without editorializing the crap out of it.) Why should I bother to read or believe the rest of the crap they write?
Sensationalism sells and that's all they care about these days. At least up here. You may be lucky and have a decent news source in your area, but there isn't one up here. Not one that I would trust with information of this importance anyway. |

| SENATOR Sarah Palin of Alaska. You Obama people should just admit that you abhore the fact that she has been a homemaker who`s main priority in life has been the raising of her 5 children and of course that speaks to a very high level of moral character. Be honest! You all dislike her for the same reasons that people like Gloria Steinem hate her. |

I'll be honest if you like. These are the reasons I didn't like her:
-She encouraged hatred and fear of her opponent and did nothing to stop people shouting out their hatred, unlike McCain.
-She didn't believe in the necessity for action on climate change and wanted polar bears off the endangered species list. she didn't stop hunting from helicopters in her state.
-She tried to run on the fact that she was an ordinary American while buying her small daughters designer handbags and her husband a spray on tan and using campaign funds to do so.
-She was anti-women, women who had been raped in Alaska had to pay for their own rape kits!! She was against terminations even in the cases of rape and incest
-She was totally ignorant of foreign affairs or even geography.
Nothing to do with how many children she has or her domestic arrangements. |

One last shot at Palin

AND
Quebec comedy duo caused friction between Palin, McCain
Last Updated: Thursday, November 6, 2008 | 2:49 PM ET Comments100Recommend129
CBC News
A prank phone call from a Montreal comedian posing as the French president fuelled tension between Sarah Palin and John McCain, according to reports in U.S. papers.
....
Palin made international headlines in the days leading to the vote, after she was "punked" by Marc-Antoine Audette, a francophone comedian in Montreal who called her pretending to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
The two spoke on the phone for several minutes about hunting, geopolitics, family and Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni, a conversation that made Palin sound naive and revealed her spotty knowledge of world affairs.
The call was broadcast around the world and Audette was toasted by network media in several countries.
McCain and his camp were not amused by the call, a Republican campaign adviser told the New York Times.
Palin's failure to inform McCain she had plans to talk with "Sarkozy" was a source of irritation for the failed presidential candidate, the report said.
McCain's top strategist, Steve Schmidt, organized a conference call after the prank call went public, demanding to know who would let that sort of thing happen without clearing it with senior advisers, the Los Angeles Times reported.
One of Palin's aides, Steve Biegun admitted to vetting the call without first speaking to McCain's advisers or the U.S. State Department.
"I was fooled," he told the L.A. Times in a report published Thursday.
"No one's going to beat me up more than I beat myself up for setting up the governor like that."
Audette and his partner in crime Sébastien Trudel have basked in the glory of international media spotlight since pulling off their coup. They've given interviews to the BBC and CBS and made weekend newspaper headlines across Europe.
The duo, known in Quebec as the "Masked Avengers", have earned a cult reputation for crank calling famous people and world leaders, including F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, Sarkozy and Britney Spears.

DITTO! And besides, I respect Gloria Steinem, even if I don't agree with everything she says. Give me an intellectual any day, over a charming, but ignorant woman, such as Palin. |

Does that mean you would have voted for her?
I thought she came across as politically naive on many fronts. Her pro-choice stance only being one of many reasons to question her preparedness to take on the responsibilities of Vice President. The Republicans also concede that she was a "hail mary" and, in hindsight, would have selected a different candidate.
She wasn't properly vetted for the position. My question, then, would you still vote for her knowing what has been learned about her since her nomination? |

| All I have to say is Palin is old news. She would be better off going back to the grind of being Governor of Alaska until the next election. |

In many cases neither was P-E Obama. When prominent broadcasters like Tom Brokaw and others admit, on national TV, that they "don't really know who he is", shouldn't that leave you wondering about the Democratic choice?
I'm just asking. |
