If that's the car I think it is, in Europe it gets over 60 (and I think close to 80) mpg, and would do over 110kph (68mph)- they kept up with us on the autostrada all the time. However, before it could be sold in the US, the gas mileage had to be decreased.

It was very popular in the area I was in.

It's called the "SMART" and can go op to 140 kph...
It's available in a cabrio too Very Happy
Fantasticly easy use in the city...no parking problems, you can park 2 cars for the price of one Wink

I think it's made by Mercedes, but I'm not completely sure.

Pippa your SMART CAR knowledge is bang on. Mercedes Canada hopes to move a lot of units through a government incentive program. N

I'll have to show this to hubby and see what he thinks.

He told me he would love to get one, he had asked our dealer who we got our vehicles from that Daimler Chrysler decided not to approach getting them. Shows you how much influence the auto industry has.

I think I've seen one or two in Florida. I couldn't remember the name of the car- thanks!!! I wouldn't mind having one for commuting to school every day, as well as for local stuff. For long distance- it might be a different story!

I don't remember seeing that before. I take it that it's all electric?

I'd been eyeballing a couple of electric vehicles for some time- but cannot afford them (and one company dropped the idea of coming out with an all-electric car- convertible- because of political pressure).

If they could come up with something that had about a 150 mile range and for about the price of a low-cost car, it would be perfect for 90% of our needs.

One big design flaw I see is the amount of car that is window! Think about how hot that car will get in the summer! And then all the energy you'd use cooling it. The AMC Pacer had that problem; a mobile greenhouse.

Also, all the window area is a huge safety issue.

RDB brings up a good point about price and ability to drive without re-charging.

Hey, I'd buy a green car in an instant if it was cheaper than a gasoline engine!
