Well, are you? This little article has to do with personality switching when it comes to dealing with people on roads, telephones, or blog spots.
Most people I'm sure are normal every day people with good manners. And then they go berserk while driving, talking to telemarketers, or on forums and such. I've never been ugly on the road or on the telephone. I admit I've lost my cool on the board. I really don't think it's all that fair to take it out on people because I'm not actually face-to-face with them. Whether it's the language and attitude I'm tempted to use or the lack of acknowledgement I sometimes want to do. If your mama taught you company manners, then by all means use them in all situations. It's a darn good thing that we can't reach out and slap the holy fire out of eachother when we get pi$$ed off! |

Being hypoglycemic, I am prone to mode swings. I regulate it by getting plenty of rest and watching my diet (and yes I am very overweight and am doing something about it).
The good thing is that I can usually tell when I am reaching my limit and try to monitor my activities. If I feel any tension or stress about something, if possible, I simply walk away and get into a quiet place until I can deal with the situation in a calm manner.
And yes, I am guilty of blowing up like a volcano at times. |

I think I'm nicer to people than I should be, more than some deserve at times, but that's only because I'm on the right meds now.
Before, look out. I do have a volcanic temper, but these days it doesn't come out all that much. The kids can push me to the brink though, they're very good at that. But with strangers, no. I tend to be as sunny as they come....
When I reach the breaking point, I have one of these hanging from the rafters in my cellar:

Hypoglycemic also. Though it rarely affects my moods. I've gotten killer migraines in the past from it that did affect my moods. Though I sometimes wonder if it all had to do with my high blood pressure. My kids can push my buttons real quick, though |

I too deal with mood swings - chronic pain and fatigue as well as hypoglycemia and so on.
I recognize the bad moods and try to moderate my behavior to reduce them, and avoid talking with people when I'm feeling rough.
In fact, I tell people that if I'm not joking with them and "joshing", I'm hurting bad.
As far as on the phone and internet- if it's a telemarketer, I am almost always very nasty- the BEST reception they'll get is "I'm not interested, this phone number is on the do not call list, DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN AND TAKE ME OFF YOUR LIST!!!" I figure that they're out to sell me something I don't want and for a price I'm not willing to pay- so it's their problem and they NEED to be treated rough. I think of telemarketers as scammers working just within the law, and don't like them. Ditto for solicitors, except I do tend to be a bit nicer towards them, as they may actually be working for a legit charity (usually I just tell them "not interested, please do not call me again! )
On the internet- I'm no different than usual, except that I like email and so on because it gives me the ability to think a little about what I'm saying (being able to edit is SUCH a pleasure!) Sometimes I try to say something in "real life" and it comes out bass ackwards, or I use the wrong words.
I will often even back away from "a fight" on the internet, just as in "real life". When people insist that I see things their way, and even after I've patiently listened to them, won't listen to me- well, why should I put up with the aggravation? |

I think it's nicer to be blunt with cold callers, rather than letting them plough through their sales pitch and then tell them you're not interested!
Must admit I do succumb to road rage fairly often and shout things in the privacy of my own car. Usually at people driving at 15 miles an hour or those who can't use roundabouts! |

Can't use roundabouts....
They've stopped using roundabouts (at least in much of Florida), because so many people get into accidents on them. I think it's a hoot, because they're so easy to use.
Part of the problem is that I think some people are unwilling to slow down a bit for others- they think only about themselves and don't realize that the person merging in front of them has as much right on the road as they do.
However, I must say that the driving style I encountered in Sicily was better- they were just as crazy as American drivers, but a lot less aggressive. In the same time span that I spent in Sicily, I would have seen at least a couple of dozen accidents here. NOT ONE over there. |

RDB, I think you've got the right of it. I love email, too. I can take my time to say what's on my mind. I'm totally honest and I am who I am here, too, but at the same time, OY VEY! I can say some stupid stuff when I'm pissed. I get in so much trouble here, more so than in any other setting to the point where I've wanted to tuck in my tail and leave for good, but I'm too stubborn. Well, maybe some day. As for people who call, like Chemlawn when they ask me what I'm going to be doing with my lawn "this summer", I tell them I'm going to be growing weeds. I don't want to pay out the nose for nasty chemicals on my lawn.
GC,
Wish you could see my husband when it comes to road rage...Eff you! to whomever he's mad with at the time. With lots of bird flipping.
English roundabouts look like fun! I would just go around and around and around, just out of principal, because it's there and it would annoy the locals. |

| Angel, I did a sociological experiment one time concerning road rage. I made it a point that whenever someone flipped me the bird or yelled something at me, I would respond by waving the Vulcan sign to them. It did one of three things: 1. They deemed me as some sort of nut and moved on. 2. They got a strange look on their faces, trying to figure me out. 3. They would start laughing and lighten up. |

Nah, I'm always the sweet, kind, easy to get along with person, everywhere I go. And if anyone disagrees with that, I'll hunt them down, and smack them about the head.
Okay, seriously, I'm pretty much the same everywhere. I try to be polite, but if pushed, I push back. I do have the occasional bout of road rage........ |
