| I absolutely love Paul Newman, and I cannot believe that one of my favourite all time performers has gone. What a great man! |

What a great man! | Yeah, I gotta admit that ol` Paul was right up there with Chuck Heston and John Wayne. He had a terrific screen persona. My favorite Newman movies are Cool Hand Luke, Sometimes a Great Notion and Irwin Allen`s The Towering Inferno and When Time Ran Out... |

| Please don't bracket Newman with those two. He was a humanist. |

Newman was a humanist? Is that what you are saying? If Newman was so be it...
John Wayne and Charlton Heston were both great actors and contributed much to films, John did with the cowboy persona and the American West. Charlton Heston did with movies that involved faith and involed God. (He was pretty forceful tho in the Planet of the Apes movies and Soylent green was creepy!)
Both did charity work and humanitarian work in thier private lives as well. Both believed in God.
Paul Newman contributed to films as well as the tough guy, as Steve Mc Queen did.I remeber seeing Paul Newman on"TheTowering Inferno" and he as great as the fire chief. "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof" I never have seen it.
I did see Newman as sundance Kid in "Butch CAssidy and the Sundance Kid"

| If Wayne and Heston had charitable foundations which donated millions to charity, then I'll call them humanists too, s'pose i don't know about them really, just associate Heston with guns and Wayne with gung-ho politics, of course, that could just be my prejudices showing! |

| I am still in shock. I think of Robert Redford when I think of Paul Newman. He was truly the Coolest. |

| The Verdict.... I think I'll go to the DVD store and rent it today. Brilliant movie. Man, he made great films... The Sting... Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (bar Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head)... Nobody's Fool... The Hustler... WHAT AN ACTOR!!! Really loved him. |

Steve McQueen was the coolest and McQueen was a lifelong friend of Newman`s. Steve was in 'Somebody Up There Likes Me" with Paul Newman. In a hardcover book I once had about John Wayne there is a quote from Steve McQueen who says "When I want to know how to act tough, I just look at the Duke" and this is Steve McQueen who is generally regarded to be have been far cooler on screen than Newman ever was. |
