Hello Members!

I wanted to share with you an excerpt from my email to Derek (cc. to Paul as well) on just concerns:

COMMENTS:
The overall design has a KISS approach, which is great! On the other hand, slotting Mr. Shatner in with the remaining Ironsink younger viewer sites is NOT a good fit (IMO). Your taking a Classic Icon / Professional Actor and lumping him in with Amateur actors/projects, not a good approach (IMO).

I would like hear from the other members on what they thought...

Thanks,
~Doc

Have clicked on links and they all function for me!!! Will also check from home pc too. It looks great. What I may do is scan the photos of Bill you were asking about before and send them to Daisy, as she is the expert. Maybe then, you will get to see them and might be able to use them !

Will give feedback as requested.

TOTALLY agree, Doc. I was really disheartened when I first checked it out. HA! Disheartened ain't a word....."pissed", more like it. Nothing like latching onto someone else's coattails.

Good business decision on the part of Ironsink..... but displays poor judgment. The Shatner Project easily could....and SHOULD .... have been the focus of the site with links to Ironsinks' other projects.

OK....so Ironsink is paying for the site. Guess we're supposed to be pleased that at least we'll have a new site with, as Paul said earlier, "all the bells & whistles." BUT, it does kinda set off all the bells & whistles in my head that the "new Shatner site"....instead of being dedicated to William Shatner.........as a tribute to the accomplishments of our favorite Icon......is merely a PR move on the part of Ironsink.

Obviously this is the business side of show business......don't agree with it.....don't like it.

Whew! I thought I was the only one upholding Bill's class....

Sherry, if you noticed, when clicking on "Community", it takes you back to this site. The BIG question (an answer other than whose paying the bills) is why can't "The Shatner Project" be housed/embedded right here Question

As YOU know, I don't know much about websites, but I think at one point in time Paul nixed that idea with the ShatnerVision stuff.....something about this site not being able to handle it due to........???? Perhaps he'll explain that one again.

Yep.....I had checked out the link back here....and the Captain's Club.

Disappointed! Kinda feel snubbed! I was envisioning a new Shatner site with all those bells & whistles dedicated to William Shatner.

And the Emmy goes to........not Shatner........ Ironsink?

Sorry.....guess I'm just an "old fart" having a senior moment....change is good...... for the right reasons.

Best, perhaps, that I stiffle further commentary on my part.

My Views So Far:

The Main Iron Sink Website - http://www.ironsink.com/indextest.html

Initial View of Home Page: It is very eye-catching. One suggestion that I might make it to make the overall screen size a bit smaller to accommodate the smaller screens that many people have.

Descriptions on Home Page: Very well planned. The Inonsink News and Events is brief, yet informative as to what is happening in each board. The photo- marquee gives the viewer a good idea of what each board is about.

Shows: The description for the Model Ball show is attention getting and makes me want to see more. Good job. The others descriptions seem to be a work in progress yet. Will keep checking back.

Community: I did join all of the message boards; however, every time I move from one community to another, I have to sign in every time. For some reason, it kicks me out every time I leave one board to go to another. I tried to leave a message on one of the boards, but when I look, I see that there are messages, but I cannot view any of them. They are all blank. Oh, wait a minute, I just found it and was able to read it. Sort of a confusing way to find it though. Confused

I will continue to work my way through the site, but I gotta tell you. Right now, the whole project is not that user friendly. I know that you are working out some serious bugs, so I am sure things will get better in time.

Plus, I agree that the Shatner Project needs to have a better place of honor. With Mr. Shatner's experience in acting, directing, (I am not sure if he has produced any shows), and if it were me wanting to make a success out of all of this, I would be putting him in the same place as I would an honored tribal elder. If he were willing, there is much he could teach the young actors in your productions. (Ok, I know I am sliding on some thin ice here and don't want to insult Mr. Shatner by any means... I am coming from a different cultural point of view than most.)

Also, I am not sure that I like the idea of having to set up my own home page with profile and the whole nine yards. The TrekSpace was quite enough. I am not sure that I want my profile floating around that much.

The thing I like about this message board is that it is easy to get to, one can see everything on the page and see where everyone is at (including Vito). Sure, it doesn't have the videos, and all the bells and whistles you are talking about, but for our type of conversations, it is enough, at least for me. Some of us old farts.... eh.... old folks..... eh mature citizens are not going to be interested in the same things as the younger folks. Your productions look interesting, but how about some shows for us older folks. Cool

Why not keep this as your main Shatner Project and just post links to all of your Iron Sink productions?

I have to work this afternoon, but will keep working my way through the link tonight (before Boston Legal, of course). Wink

Sherry, I know that feeling!

I rather put an end to this site rather than having Bill lumped in with silly amateur performances ("model ball, upstairs girls and downstairs guys). Evil or Very Mad

Personally, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. I realize that Bill's publicity staff is working diligently to get his name out there in the public realm, but putting profiles up on dozens of internet sites: utube, Trekspace, myspace, facebook, etc. just might be going a bit overboard, especially when one of Bill's comments suddenly appears on all of those sites simultaneously. (Now let me stop here and clarify that I mean NO disrespect to Mr. Shatner. With his hectic schedule, we can all agree that he does not have time to physically post in every one of these areas.) With that said, it does open the door to folks who question the validity of Bill's profile on the various sites.

You and I know it is genuine, because we know how things work. But to someone who posts a comment to Bill and expects an immediate reply the same as they would with any other poster on those social sites will only be disappointed and disallusioned at best.

If they are going to go through the time and trouble of putting profiles up on social networks, then perhaps some additional staff needs to be added to answer posters' comments and questions. I know that Leonard Nimoy's site, though smaller in comparison has someone there to answer the posts that are put on his site. I know, I have received several replies from someone on his staff.

Let me see if I can spread some clarity - the board for The Shatner Project is indeed this board.

However, this site is Bill's official site and we need to maintain a separation of "church and state" (and no cracks that I used religion and politics as an example) and the man and his projects so while there will be a "TheShatnerProject.com" site the community button directs people to our message board here because community is what is most important.

As for the other Iron Sink projects (which are more drama and farce than this project) being connected to that site; I guess it's a matter of "who is paying the bills". It's actually this project that is the project that is different from all the others. So it's necessary to have a link to the other shows (as with any movie, TV or other project site - you always have links to the other shows on the network or other films coming out.)

OK, I think that I understand what you are doing. There are those younger folks who will go to the Ironsink.com and enjoy the viewing of the various videos. They may also click on the Shatner Project and discover or rediscover the world of Bill Shatner as some of them may not even have been born yet when the trek series or even some of the laters showe were on. They may only know Bill from some of the commercials they have seen and not realize (cringing here) that he is a legendary star icon.

I, for one, am not trying to be overly critical of your project Paul. It is clear that you are putting a great deal of effort into it. I can see the internet becoming an important part of the daily entertainment for folks around the country and beyond. In time, some of the big time actors will be seen on internet dramas as frequently as on TV.

And who knows, perhaps some of those young upstarts on your videos will one day blossom into big time stars themselves and we can tell our grandkids, "Hey, I knew that person when they were young snot-nosed rookies." Wink

I have to go back to work now. Will pop in later.

Sue B

Just for clarification here - Ruby already knows what I said on the other board about this - Just because Bill is doing a project with me through my company Iron Sink; there needs to be an Iron Sink specific site where this project rests. It's like Bill goes off and does Boston Legal; does this site become a Boston Legal site just because Bill is doing the show?

No. So Bill is doing The Shatner Project and while I'm posting the video links to this site; the URL for The Shatner Project goes to a very simple page where the video player can be seen and you can move to other Iron Sink shows - much in the same way you can move to Desperate Housewives or Extreme Makeover Home Edition on the ABC Boston Legal site.

What is important to note is that the community button on the top of The Shatner Project page does link to this message board so we do benefit from the new fans finding Bill and coming over to interact and discuss the videos.

So that's why there needs to be a separation from this site; Bill's official site and any project site he may be involved in.

-Paul
