NASA is also preparing to roll a second space shuttle, Atlantis' sister ship Endeavour, to Launch Pad 39A early Thursday, marking the first time since 2001 that two orbiters were in launch position.
Endeavour is being prepared for a planned November mission to the space station, but must first serve as a rescue ship for the Hubble shuttle flight. Because they must fly to a higher orbit and in a different inclination than the space station to reach Hubble, Atlantis astronauts will not be able to reach the safe haven of the orbiting laboratory if their shuttle suffers critical damage.
Instead, NASA will ready Endeavour and a small, four-astronaut crew for the unlikely event a rescue is required. Upon Atlantis' safe return home, Endeavour is due to move to Launch Pad 39B for a planned Nov. 12 liftoff, NASA officials have said.

WOW!
Two orbiters on the pad at the same time. I know we'll get
pictures of that and I will post them. |

| There may be a need for space traffic control someday! |

| How come the shuttle enterprise has never flown in space? NASA ought to use what they build. |

As promised, something you don't see everyday...
Shuttle Enterprise was basically a glider shell to practice
landings. It didn't have the "stuff" to go into space.. |

I don't recall if it even had any of the heat shield tiles either, I tend to think it didn't. Enterprise was only used for stuff like drop tests. They simply added weights to balance out the lack of real engines. The wikipedia entry has a more extensive explanation:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_Enterprise |

What I can not believe is that after a quater of a century there is not a working replacement for the shuttle and when it is retired soon the US no longer has the capacity to reach the space station without catching a lift with Russia.....or China.
Perhaps the Government should be bailing our Nasa instead of the banks, after all it does represent the best that the US can be, not to mention its a pretty sound job creation scheme. |

The Shuttle will not be retired on schedule...
and have you ever seen or heard of the US asking for help
from Russia or China other than trying to help Russia out
with some much needed $cash$ for their Soyuz efforts.
That's generosity.
Nice try, keep trying

| The Constelation looks like a step back to Apollo, you would think by now we would have space craft that look more like what you see on Star Trek. We need another Kenedy to get the program back to its former glory. |

The problem is simple............distance
The moon, then Mars, is one thing, but if we plan on visiting another solar system or another galaxy, not until someone creates warp drive or
something similar..
I guess it's just easy to blame NASA |
