First it was some pyromaniac here in town....now it is the remnants of Lowell and Hurricane Ike that's irking every one here in my town...for the last few days we have had massive flooding and it aint pretty here..
My basement is finally drying out but the water is still rising and hopefully it will crest today right now it's at 33.5 feet and the Illinois begins to flood at 20.5 feet....To see what is going on here is a link to our web newspaper with pics of the damage...My house is half a block from the flooding on our street and this is the farthest it has ever come..The Fox river is usually 5 blocks from my house now it's half a block...

PLease pray it doesent destroy the corn and soybean crops or a lot of animal and pet feeds will go up as will some food prices.

Still no school at the high school or Central school...the flood waters are still at 33.7 feet and it is seeping through the levey that surrounds the back and side of the High school. Central school was totaly surrounded, and even tho it was sand bagged water still made it's way intot he school and did damage...A new $3,000 kitchen made for the handicapped classes to be a training kitchen was damaged with the water..
They are now saying the water won't begin to recede untill Friday or Saturday at the earliest....

Nope...it's still at 33.6 flood stage but the Fox River has gone down quite a bit and that is good news. The high school did open this morning and students were allowed in. Central has water still around it and they are sending the students to three diffrent schools here in town so thier learning won't be disrupted. Some will go to McKinley, some will go to Lincoln and some will go to the Sheperd Jr. High school.
The water at the end of my street has begun to recede as it's part of the Fox..and hopefully the cleanup will begin. junk and huge trees have been jammed under the bridge and train tressle and it's made a huge dyke..They just unclogged the bridge and tressle 2 months ago from last years flooding!!
I hope this wont be a yearly thing... Some people near us lost everything...

I hope ALL the waters recede quickly. And I sure feel sorry for those who have lost so much. |
