The usually dismissed EnableSuperfetch registry tweak, most say it has no effect but having just run vista on my machine and now having gone back to xp which is what I usually wind up doing, I have discovered the big oversight. Most will give the EnableSuperfetch DWORD a value of "1", however, checking the registry under vista I discovered that the value of the EnableSuperfetch DWORD should actually be set to a value of "3" just as the EnablePrefetcher DWORD is also set to a value of "3". After entering the EnableSuperfetch DWORD set to "3" and rebooting the boost in performance was very obvious.

This is the first time I've ever heard of "Tweaks" like that- where do you find them (a reliable and trustworthy source of info)?

This system is fairly fast- but I would love to get my laptop and school systems working faster- both are older and have limited memory and processors. If they make a difference, I might even tweak this one.

(I've known about setting up the system firmware for a long time, but not Windows).

You access the windows registry by typing "regedit" in the Run dialog box.

Yeah... I know how to do that (having to fix a couple of problems in the past). What I don't know is where to find these tweaks- a site that can be trusted to provide good information (including what could be potentially harmful).

Give your older systems a turbo charge, and make them virus-free. Enjoy a brave world of PC pizzazz and cachet. Amaze your friends. Educate your children. Enlarge your manhood (or your man's manhood). Save the world from corrupt monopoly madness...

Do you crave the "Wow!" factor? My 4-year-old PC (AMD XP2200+) can easily handle the 3D desktop eye-candy shown in this cheesy video...

Whenever you guys bring up the intricate nature of the internet, I feel left out. On the other hand (my left) I welcome all of the computer and electronic geniuses who frequent this board.

For a few years, it seemed like we had not even entered the 21st Century. With hindsight, we are really here in the sci-fi future that everybody iamgined but it is not exactly the way that we thought it would be.

I can only sort of eavesdrop on these geek/nerd bull sessions of yours.

Do I have an inferiority complex? The jury is locked in the room.
