The much-loved show ran from 1968 to 1977 and its popularity has endured to this day. Clive Dunn, Arthur Lowe and Ian Lavender starred in the series, co-created by Croft and Jimmy Perry.
As well as the internal BBC memos, the online archive also features a behind-the-scenes photo gallery and letters from the actors.
Jonathan Ross will be hosting a one-off special to commemorate the 40th anniversary on BBC Two on Sunday, 3 August at 1900 BST (1800 GMT).

You know, it's interesting to hear about British TV... I've never heard of this show or the "Carry On" movie series.
They don't sound very interesting to me- I'm not a TV or movie watcher for the most part (The educational channels being about it, along with news) and not being a comedy fan. But I do find it fascinating to hear about other "forms" like this. It does point out cultural differences that are very interesting. |

You might know it as a programme called " The Rear Guard".

britstarfan,
The rough estimate of how much tv I have watched in my lifetime turns out to be about 10 years. By that I mean that I have been parked in idle while "glued to the tube" for the equivalent of 10 solid years 24/7.
When somebody mentions a show that I've never heard of it is sure to get my attention. Thanks for the recommendatation.
I am not making that up. I really have watched an enormous amount of television.
