Well, that is the islamic fundamentalist mindset that has dogged us since 1979. Kill anything and everything that doe not agree with them. Don`t worry. Those psychopaths want a fight? We`ll give`em one!.....and they won`t ever be that sorry again.

Al-Qaeda was created to fight the Saudi Royalty so its hardly a suprise, in fact this has always been one of their Goals so the Pope has little to do with it.

Its the Suport of the Saudi Royals that has got the west off side.

I'm paraphrasing something I read a few years ago: "Fundamentalism is what the common people retreat to when they know the system isn't working for them."

This is a very true observation. At the same time, you have jackasses like Bin Laden who take advantage of this by using the fundamentalists for political power.

It's the same as in this country. There are fundamentalists who are equally violent and bent on overthrowing the US in favor of "Returning America to it's Christian roots!" (properly read as forcing their religious ideas on everyone who doesn't believe as they do!) They're referred to as "Joel's Army" or "Joshua Generation" and believe it or not: the are a real threat to freedom in the US. The most militant and violent are the "Army of God" which is still VERY active and deadly. The leadership are using these "common folks" to gain political power- and they want to control everyone.

As far as the region known as the "mideast"- America and Europe have a lot of responsibility for the situation. As long as repressive regimes are kept in power in the name of "STABILITY!" (read Big Oil corporate profits), the system isn't really working for the average citizen. People over there also have "long memories"- and they are fed bull**** by the leadership- for instance, the fraud "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" is actually broadcast on national TV over there! So, it's no wonder that we see things like this.

Add to that the way the House of Saud got into power (and how they keep power), combined with the fact that they support and are supported by Wahabism, and it's not a good mixture for the ordinary citizens.

It's a sad situation. Oh, yes... racism isn't really the correct term for this.

Bull! Islamic fundamentalist psychopaths aren`t killing people over oil profits since THEY THEMSELVES are involved in drug trafficking which is a well-known profitable enterprise for some JUST AS OIL is for some. Psychopathic islamic nutjobs INSIST that the entire world submit to Allah.....or else! It`s as simple as that, rdb.

You need to do some reading to dispell the stereo types, the description above is not a bad one, remember the second biggest terrorist atack on US soil was in OK City by an American. You need to be careful in using the fundamentalist term in a restrictive way as it covers all kinds of nutters.

A terrorist is just part of an army that is not state based, technically there are many poeple power uprisings that we support that also fall into this category, it just depends on who's perspective you are looking from.

Sad Sad I can vouch for that, Morgram. A family friend lost his wife in that attack. And my sister's field trip to the Murrah Federal Building was the day before the attack. If the plan had gone forward sooner.......well, you can see why this is upsetting to me. Terrorism is terrorism no matter who's pushing the explosives button. And McVeigh didn't have the decency to blow himself up with all those little babies in that building. He was miles away when they finally caught up with him. I'm not condoning suicide tactics, not by a long shot, but being miles away and feeling the percussion wave isn't kosher, neither. Maybe even more cowardly than what the terrorists do today. The guy, as far as we know, didn't even repent before he went to the execution chamber. A true coward in every sense of the word. Sad Sad

I thought we we were talking about the middle-eastern brand of terrorist. They hate jews, catholics, the west and westerners in general. What exactly is rdb`s point? That we should stop supporting the saudi royals and the hell with oil? Just who else may I ask in that part of the world are we to align ourselves with??? Hamas? Hezbollah? As I said before, the saudi royals are human beings who conduct themselves in a civilized manner with others. Barack Obama wants to sit down with Ahmadinejad, Hamas and Hezbollah. As Frank Pentangeli once remarked to Michael Corleone, "How do you negotiate with savages?"

I went to the OK City site last October and paid my respects, its a very moving monument and very sad. I had been to Hiroshima in January and while that was far more impacting they both made you think of one thing, why do humans do such horrible things to our own kind.

I will be visiting New York in January and will place a flower and Aussie flag on the site (if this is still allowed of course). I only hope that we don't have to many more sites that one should visit in the future.

Seeing how you have set yourself up as the expert on these matters, I guess there is no need to discuss the matter further.

Rome, 28 July (AKI) - Al-Qaeda Number 3, Abu Yahya al-Libi has issued a new video urging the killing of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah for his moves towards inter-faith dialogue with Pope Benedict XVI.

(AP) An al-Qaida commander who escaped from a U.S. prison in Afghanistan has posted a Web video urging Muslims to kill the Saudi king for leading an interfaith conference.

As I mentioned in another thread:

Quote:
It is scary and dangerous to deal with issues that involve anyone's religion. Threaten a person and his family, he may fight to keep his family safe. His neighbors may or may not help. But threaten a person's diety, and the whole community will unite, justified or not.

Isn't that how Hitler operated? He saw certain people as a threat to his livelyhood and rallyed others in his fight by accusing them of killing his god. What a pity that someone actually thought that their god was so small that he could be killed by mortal man.

Al Qaida is dangerous because they believe they are following some guidance (even if misguided) from a diety. If they feel their god is threatened, (and they do), they will continue to be a dangerous force to be reckoned with for as long as that threat exists.

Just my own opinion on the matter of course.

SMB, you did not counter a single thing I said. You can`t so you remark that I am a self-proclaimed expert. I have said nothing that is not plainly obvious to the average person. Tell me where you think I am wrong. My observation is that you cannot engage in diplomacy with savages like al-qaeda. If you disagree with me on that then I would ask you to explain just how we do go about negotiating with people who have no scruples about committing violence and carnage.

See my post just above yours. I am not even going to counter any thing that you said. I have no argument with you or anyone. I am just opposed to your attacking my husband for stating his opinions just as you are stating yours.

Stick to the issues without blasting individuals or close this thread.
