OK on my trip to the USA we have a few days in LA and on 30 December we have a flight to SFO at 9pm. We are staying near the LAX airport and wondered if driving to Mexico for the day was an option, you know, pop to Mexico for Mexican lor lunch.

How long is the drive, is it an easy drive and is there a place where we should go once we get there.

Thoughts ???

You can get Japanese in Sydney as well but the Banquet on Myajima Island off the coast of Hirosima was special, I want to eat Mexican in Mexico, Chinese in China, and a hot dog in America.

Like Stalone said in his movie, your in America now, eat italian.

Are you planning on driving from LA to the Mexican border?? Just for lunch?? Dude, that's like 135 miles one way!

We're supposed to be conserving gas to help the planet.

LA to Mexico is a very long drive. It's a straight shot down I-5, but it's not a short distance, and depending on traffic, you're looking at a lot of driving hours.

Plus, if you plan on driving a rental car, you won't be able to cross the border. It's illegal to take rental cars across the border into Mexico. So, you have to park your car, and walk across. This really limits where you can go. In addition, there may or may not be additional visa's required, you might want to check.

You can probably get a better cheesesteak in LA than you can in downtown Philly!

Crossing the border from S. California isn't the best thing to do. Dangerous towns and bad water. Ain't worth it.

ImageThe last time I went it took 4 hours from San Clemente to Tijuana...TRAFFIC....Prices are UP...QUALITY is DOWN.....
It's HOT...it's DIRTY...IT STINKS REALLY BAD....
and It Isn't Safe Anymore....SKIP IT

Go to any area in California and you will find Little MEXICO...
The Food can be really good...TRY Olamendis....
Laguna Beach, Capistrano Beach, San Clemente

Then you can go sightseeing in those towns...that should only be a
2-3 hour drive depending on Traffic Image

Depends on the day of the week - also remember that 12/30 is really close to New Years so it may be unwise to venture too far out of the area for LA traffic is horrendous.

I remember coming back from Comic Con in San Diego one year with Chase Masterson and it took us over 8 hours to drive to LA due to the Sunday traffic coming back across the border.

OK scrub that idea, thanks for the advice, you tend to forget about traffic here, driving to Canberra from my place is about the same distance but I do that in under two hours.

JT one reason I did not consider the fuel cost is because fuel in America is so cheap compared to here and most other places, while you think it is expensive that is very much a local perception.

OK time to work on Plan B

It's not really a good idea for a trip to Tijuana, but who knows,
you might get by with it.
