A Qantas 747-400 made an emergancy landing in Manilla following the failure of part of the fusilage following what some describe as a loud bang.
The area that this breach has occured is about where the Oxygine bottles are held so its just as well they were only at 29,000 feet and not the normal cruise height of 40,000.
The aircraft diverted and landed without injury to any passengers and those on Board were full of praise at the calm way the crew kept everyone relaxed and prepared them for the landing.
Qantas is the worlds oldest airline having operated continuously longer than any other airline. They were the first in the World to have a global network that took them around the globe and they remain the only airline in the world never to lose an aircraft. I fly with Qantas most months.

Wasn't that shocking? I'm glad that they were able to land safely, and that no one was hurt. They said everyone on board remained remarkably calm.
I like flying Qantas. I've flown to AUS on both United and Qantas, and Qantas was by far the better flight.
It's funny, but I never had any problems with customs in any of the airports I flew into in AUS. The only time I encountered a problem, was in Hawaii. Sheesh! |

Australian Customs runs pretty smoothly, its well manned so you don't get those long lines you find at LAX. Having an Aussie Passport obviously gets me through a lot faster but overall it does run well. I also find Japan very good.
Qantas are a very good airline and it is very rare for problems to occur, one issue they are having at the moment is delays in replacing its fleet, they have a large order for A380 Air Bus that are several years behind and a huge order for Boeing Streamliners (787's I think) that are also very late and this has meant they are holding onto aircraft longer than they prefer. This one at 17 years of age is exceptionally old for Qantas who pride themselves on a younger fleet.
It is looking like one of the Oxy bottles blew up, pretty unusual thing to happen.
Even in the movie Rain Man Qantas got a mention when Tom Cruise told Hoffman all airlines have accidents and Hoffman says Qantas dont crash, qantas never crash. |
