You may have noticed several random threads where the idea of sponsoring a horse for the Ahead with Horses project that would include everyone who is a member of this message board was discussed. I decided to start a new thread to explain the project.
As you know, Bill is very much involved with the Hollywood Charity Horse Show: http://www.horseshow.org/Welcome.html . One of the charities is Ahead With Horses, a therapeutic riding organization which works with children who are very badly disabled. You can visit their website at:
http://www.aheadwithhorses.org/
For anyone who has attended a WSW and has seen these children perform with these magnificent animals and their special trainers will tell you; that it is a real treat and to be prepared to have your heart stolen in half a beat.
It costs, 5000.00 to sponsor a horse for a year. I know, it sounds like a lot of money, but with as many members as we have here, if we worked together, we could make this happen.
Of course, I won't be collecting any money personally. Money can be donated through the charity button on the side. The donations will be confidential. I only know what I am putting into it. the rest is between whoever chooses to contribute and the charity. I will have no way of knowing if we reach the goal of 5000.00 or not. I just decided to put myself in the position of the nail-head and promote the idea.
I just thought that it would be a great gift to give to Bill, who has kept us entertained for so many years and since we have very little control over who ends up with the Emmy or other awards, at least we would have some control over this gift.
If you click on the word, "donate here," it will take you to the site where you can donate through PayPal or with a credit card. Please put in the message box that your donation is from the WilliamShatner.com website and is for the "Fan Power" fundraiser to sponsor a horse. You can donate as little as a dollar or as much as you want. Every dollar helps.
Several members have already given, so the challenge has begun. Do you think we can get enough together before the next HCHS in April of 2009?
Maybe we can even sweet talk Paul into putting a sticky on this, as it will be a long-term project. |

I'd love to go to the HCHS.
Donations are the best way to lend a hand..
And....We don't have to be there to help. |

I expanded the invitation to join our project to the TrekSpace folks.

BTW. Trekspace is pretty neat. Like MySpace, only with a few extra bells and whistles. |
