On the Startrek.com forums, I started a thread showing my appreciation for Star Trek V; the Final Frontier. When I started the thread, I could have sworn I was nearly the only fan who acutally enjoys this Trek Film.
apparently, many fans actually agree, though flawed in script, the directioin was solid concidering Paramount interceeding during production, which drasticly altered the outcome
Just thought I would pass it on to this site and Mr Shatner if he reads this

I thought Star Trek V was a fun movie.
It was better than Star Trek The Motion Picture and Miles better than Star Trek Generations.

Welcome aboard Kornula!
Make that two of us then who enjoyed Star Trek V; the Final Frontier.
I have a sneaking suspicion that there are actually others out there, but they don't want to openly admit it. (Sort of like folks who actually liked the show "Hee Haw," but didn't want to let folks know that they were Hillbillies at heart.)
Hollywood folks seem to have a real phobia when it comes to anything with the slightest hint of religion in it, and heaven help them if someone actually mentions G-d. Perhaps they are afraid that someone may actually find G-d, and then everyone in tinsel-town would be forced to clean up their act for real. Can you picture Madonna in a prairie dress and bonnet? or Paris Hilton in a 30's style swimsuit. Oh, and we can't forget the men-folk who strut their stuff like male-peacocks in heat.
OK, I was just fun'n yall. There are some really nice folks out in Hollywood. They just have the good sense to stay away from those annoying paparazzi who seem to have traded their brains for their cameras. Why else would these reporter wannabees be dumb enough to stand in front of a celebrity's car and then scream when their toes are run over!?! |

I love ST V.
It has the best lines....
"I NEED MY PAIN"
Also, the opening scene... one of my faves... Nimbus III and the whole premise of the planet of "galactic peace".
The fight with the Caitian... and the Klingon connection at the end...
All the characters were in fine form and the search for God was a good storyline.
So many memorable moments - especially from Scotty and McCoy. |

I understand from his Movie Memories that Bill did not feel entirely satisfied with TFF because of the many compromises he had to make (tight budget and all that), but I nevertheless like STV, I really do - and I'm not ashamed of it. I think it captures the TOS spirit pretty well, and it's a wonderful friendship film, particularly when focusing on the Big Three and portraying them as the family they've actually become over the years. |

Star Trek V does capture some of TOS's spirit. The ending has Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and an expendable character heading down to a barren planet to face off a big thing created through cheesy effects...if that isn't TOS I don't know what is!
But seriously, there are some parts of The Final Frontier to really enjoy. The teaser (another TOS staple) is very dramatic. I love the campfire scenes for giving us some of the best interaction with the "big three." The "I need my pain" sequence showed wonderful acting from Bill, Leonard, and DeForrest. Jerry Goldsmith did a fine job with the score, especially the theme for Kirk as he's climbing El Capitan. It's too bad Bill wasn't allowed to give the movie the work he wanted to for the DVD. |
