I have been on the emotional roller coaster this week!!! My 85yo grandpa fell and has 3 fractures in his hip. Yeah, yeah, no horror stories please!!!!! I know what could happen, and I don't want to hear about it. For now, that's other people.

Gramps had his surgery yesterday and is doing very well today. They will be getting him up and out of bed today and on to therapy. My grandpa isn't one to sit too long, so he'll be fine.

Don't ask me why, but I've always known that when he does go, we'll find him in the yard with some type of tool in hand. Seriously. This is the man who just a couple of weeks ago was up on a ladder cleaning out the gutters--as grandma watched with the phone right by her!!!! Shocked God forbid he'd ask anyone for any kind of help!!! That's just the way he is..... Feisty old fart!!!! Laughing

Anyway, he's in good spirits and can't wait to get out of that hospital bed!!! That's just a very good sign that everything will be alright. It may slow him down a bit, but not for long!!! He had both knees replaced (at the same time) about 15 yrs ago. He was at least 2 weeks ahead of the recovery curve the whole time. That's probably where I get my quick recovery from!!!

Some good thoughts from everyone wouldn't hurt either!!! 'Cuz you never know....but I don't care to think about that any longer (been there, done that)!!!! Wink

Prayers going up for your Grandfather and that every thing will be well for him and all of you.

Glad to hear he is in good spirits!

Sounds like he's doing well. Attitude plays a big part in quick recoveries I've heard.

Thanks all!!!

I wasn't able to make it up to the hospital yesterday, but I did call his room and talk to him. He sounded tired. Physical therapy takes a lot out of you the first few days (unfortunately I oughta know).

I'm planning on going up there when I get up this afternoon. Just got home from work, and it's past my bedtime!!! Laughing

I'm a firm believer in the whole healthy attitude helping you recover. It helped me when I had my 2 surgeries (1 per year the last 2 years)!!!

Besides, like I said, he's not one for sitting around doing nothing!!

I guess they're going to keep him for another week to make sure he's progressing with therapy. That way, he won't have to go to a rehab facility (aka nursing home). They will take care of it in the hospital, and make sure he's progressing. He'll have to take it slow, but he'll be able to go straight home then. YAY!!!! Wink

Prayers and good thoughts for Grandfather!

My co-worker's 82 year old dad fell off of a roof on Monday. Luckily, he only broke a couple of ribs! But, boy did he scare his family!!!!

I'm sure granpa will be up and running circles around all the "young-uns" in no time!

I'll sure keep your grandpa in my prayers for a quick recovery.

It sounds like he has a real zest for life, and is keeping quite active. I'm sure this will help him recover quickly.

Having a good and strong spirit and attitude is key to the healing process. I am a two-time cancer survivor and know first hand what it is to fight with, sometimes, shear determination and will-power.

Besides, I get into too much mischief to be ready for heaven, and the Devil is afraid I'll take over the joint. Laughing Cool Wink

He'll be fine. He sounds like a fighter. Those are the best. Prayer already said. Cool

Haven't had time to update you. Gramps got moved to the rehab facility on Saturday. He'll start his therapy today (got a break over the weekend). He's doing fine. He's started moving his leg up and down (bending it at the knee) and some other stuff with it.

I didn't go see him yesterday (I didn't feel so good, and didn't want to spread any germs--but it turns out I'm not sick), but mom said the swelling of his leg has gone down a lot. I'll be going to see him later today.

He's in very good spirits, for the most part. He's been having his own pity party----but that's just normal. As long as he breaks himself loose from that type of thought, he'll be fine!!! Mom said he was in much better spirits last evening than he was earlier. I think he's just frustrated at not being able to go and do whatever he wants. He's also worried about grandma. She falls a lot, and he can't be there to keep an eye on her right now..... We're keeping track of her, so he doesn't have to worry, but when you've been married for 60 years....... Wink Yes, I did type 60 years. Seriously!!!!!

Glad to hear that he is doing well and getting the therapy he needs. I just pray your grandmother will be ok and not take a nasty fall.

My GRandparents were married 68 years before they both died within a year of each other..They were the oldest living married couple of their time in our county in the 1980's.
