I say what I say. Roddenberry`s creation of TNG was so unnecessary. There was NEVER anything wrong with TOS and thereby hangs the tale. Paramount and Roddenberry thought they could supplant TOS with TNG...and they were wrong!, and when they found that TOS wasn`t quite receding into the sunset as quickly as they would have liked, they decided to help it along a little bit. That signature business at the close of Trek 6 and later, THE DEATH OF KIRK. When paramount decided to arbitrarily cut Bill`s star trek years short at the end of generations, Bill was in his mid-60s and I figure he had at least 2 or 3 more trek movies left in him, but unfortunately for us all, paramount had other ideas. Paramount is guilty of 2 critical blunders of judgment. First, with the willing assistance of Roddenberry they allow the creation of TNG, erroneously believing that it can effectively supplant TOS and carry the star trek legacy into the future indefinitely. They completely underestimated how beloved TOS was and still is. Second, the bigger of their 2 monumental blunders, they decide, they ACTUALLY decide, to consign TOS to the recycle bin of history. TO THIS DAY I say...incredible! It is sad that star trek is ultimately doomed and it is very sad that such a great actor as William Shatner was robbed of so many years of an active part in Star Trek. There will be solace and paramount`s greed-impelled sabotage of the star trek legend will finally come to it`s ignoble end with the failure of Trek 11. Hundreds of millions of trekkers worldwide will have that final satisfaction. All good things must come to an end and so must it inevitably be with STAR TREK....courtesy of paramount.

That was a long time ago, time to get over it and move on. Trek has done just fine with the variations on offer, I look forward to the next one with interest.

The franchise is currently dead and everyone knows it.

I thought I was an extremist but I admit you got me beat. TOS definately rules. Tho the later series have a LOT of talent involved and are mostly great series in their own right. Id say TOS is in a league of its own. Theyre playing NG on mondays on sci fi now, even tho they are the fan pics, those first 2 seasons or so are just terrible, so bad that they are funny, when NG started I was in high school and i was glued to my set every week. I guess just cause it was new it was good. Then after season 3 or so it really became a great series with lovable characters and great plots, EXCLUDING all holodeck episodes. GAH. Rick Bermans sins only begin with holodeck episodes and deserves a pinapple enema for each one. but ya, still GREAT ST like yesterdays enterprise, the one where riker falls in love with a lesbian hermaphrodite, the list is endless. Then Deep Sht Nine, which was terrible until the klingon and dominion wars, Jeffery Combs characters were brilliant, he was born to play the andorian in enterprise. Then the phenomenon of the ST Megababe starts with voyager and 7oh9. wow. once again early seasons terrible but some really good star trek in there. Enterprise is just plain good show. When they were on sci fi every monday you can watch them over and over. And you got a hot megababe in skin tight catsuits or underwear every episode. cant go wrong there. And the hottest of all, the orion slave girls.

BUT, id say you just cant beat sitting down to a favorite ep of TOS.

Now the movies, 1-4, love em, 5 not so much, 6 awsome. 7-9 are pretty good. But Nemesis, jeez, the hover car in the hallway was just wow, um STUPID. They always say ST is dead until the news of the next movie or show starts to circulate, I dont think it will be good but im not discounting it. Theres no doubt that Wrath of Kahn is simply one of the greatest movies ever made. EVER.

I dont understand why you could hate TV Land, they show TOS at late night, perfect for when I cant sleep, and i like catching an ep of MASH once in awhile.

I have no interest in subjecting myself to tos episodes that are chopped up and time-compressed with the single exception of 'That Which Survives'. Lee Meriwether as Losira is my favorite tos babe.

For now, it will be back, JJ's Movie trilogy will most likely trigger a TV revival

People shouldn't and will not "get over" something that will haunt the movie industry until it wakes up. Did you ever notice how actors are being substituted with basically models these days? There isn't a good crop of young actors anymore, there all just good-looking people with no acting talent. Look at the movies being produced and see who is chosen for any serious acting parts, with a role for a young person. They can't act! Just eye candy for the public. Bad writing, replaced with CGI and other fancy effects have taken the place of a good, compelling story for an actor to sink her/his teeth into. Oh, crap! I just ended a sentence with a preposition!

You said it exactly, JT. It's gotten so everyone on TV/movies looks pretty much the same. Same age, same body type, etc. And they've replaced plots and acting with sex and CGI. Okay, maybe the sex part is okay, but not the CGI...... What's funny is that the old special effects are usually much better than the CGI crap they put out now. Sadly, you will still have to be smited for ending a sentence with a preposition. But, everyone needs a good smiting now and again to keep them in line.

Star Trek can never end as long as this guy is still around. Yep, this incredibly good looking guy. Yep, this really incredibly good looking sexy guy. With his bare chest. All sweaty and stuff. Practically naked. Yep. There he is. Darn, he looks good. Oh yeah. So, what were we talking about....... Embarassed Shocked
