Post subject: Put Shatner In New Trek Film NOW!  PostPosted: Jun 12, 2008 - 11:20 PM

Hi Bill and Lisabeth, My name is John Crane, no relation to Denny, and am new to the Website. I've been a Fan of Bill's since 1966 and I must say I'm very dissappointed to hear that Bill will not be in the new Star Trek Film. I've done some extensive reading on the Topic for some time now, including the Wikipedia Website. Wikipedia state's: "William Shatner has repeatedly said he would like to reappear as the old Kirk, despite the death of the character in Star Trek Generations. He suggested the film canonize the novels where Kirk is resurrected, but Abrams argued, "You and I could come up with dozens of ways [to resurrect Kirk], but every way that we came up with felt like it was transparently fanboys trying to get Shatner in the movie." Nimoy disliked the character's death in Generations, but felt resurrecting Kirk would also be detrimental to this film." I disagree that Kirk appearing in the new film would be detrimental. If Nimoy is in the Film as the older Spock, there must be a Flashback or Flashforward or some type of Recollection story going on here. Why can't Shatner(Kirk) and Nimoy(Spock) both appear together in the Film talking/discussing/reminising about what happened to them during their days at Starfleet Academy. And what if this scene took place the night before Kirk, Scotty and Chekov are supposed to go to the Enterprise - B for it's maiden cruise - "Star Trek Generations." That would definitely solve the (Death Of Kirk) problem and satisfy the Fans as well. Since the Film appears to be slated for release in May, 2009 - I believe there is still plenty of time for J.J. Abrams to reconsider his decision and put Bill in the new Movie. There is always a way to do it - it's Science Fiction! Spock was resurrected and I don't believe there was anyone saying - what did Abrams call it? - A "Transparently Fanboys" effort - just to get Nimoy in the Film. My idea eliminates the need for the resurrection premise. Pressure could be put on Abrams through an online petition that all Star Trek and William Shatner Fans could sign and be sent to Abrams. There is still time to do this. I most sincerely believe this can be done and needs a Grassroots Effort to accomplish it. Call it what you'd like "Put Shatner In New Trek Film Now" or some other catchy phrase. I hope this can bring attention to it and start a serious discussion. Idea

Welcome aboard jpc1701!

Unfortunately, the making of the film is finished (at least that is what the folks at Paramount said when I took the little tour back in April).

That's sound like a good solution. Perhaps we should flood Paramount with tribbles to get their attention. Cool Wink

With all due respect to Mr Shatner, Star Trek is far bigger than any one character, while its nice to see TOS people in the series, to many fans it spoils the story which is mostly about Star Fleet.

Kirks popularity is undisputed but in reality he was the captain of the least sucessful Star Trek series to date (only three seasons). The inability of many of the TOS fans to accept there is life beyond TOS is one of the reasons the series has ceased production.

My son loves Star Trek he has seen them all except TOS, he has tried but finds it just to old now, thats young-n's for ya. Many of the franchises fans did start watching at TNG and on.

That said, who says he isn't in the film, could be they want to keep it under wraps until the release date.

Long live Kirk in whatever form he may be in, movie, tv, or book. I also love all Trek, too. I especially loved DS9 and Enterprise. Trek is a concept and dream of Roddenberry, but morphed into so much more by us fans. Strength and peace intertwined. That's why I love Trek. Cool

No "Shatman" no Hart, in more ways than one !!

There is no way I would accept anyone portraying Kirk, old or young, other than "The Man", so I'll be keeping my money in my pocket. Paramount never cease to amaze me how stupid they can be with regards to their franchise!!! Shocked

This is such TOTAL CRAP! "With all due respect", my ass! Shatner was such an integral part of Star Trek and it's ability to succeed and carry on for decades and without him, Nimoy, or Kelly it wouldn't have been an institution for others to sponge off of! There would have been NO TNG or others without the efforts of the first team!

Oh, and to have the members of the original series SPOILING it?? Holy Crap, I can't believe I just read that! And your son thinks it's too old? Maybe you should explain the meaning of the word "timeless" to him. Maybe some styles are out-of-date, but the things we think are cool now may be laughable in the future. The stories were well written and people loved the show.

Star Trek is seen in how many countries around the world? In how many different languages??

There's something called "respect" for an actor that has steadily worked for over 50 years. They should give Shatner a chunk of the profits if he's in it or not, just to show some appreciation.

I'm replying to a post that's just a total joke! I'd have an easier time trying to talk some sense into a crackhead!! I just felt I had to defend an actor who DESERVES some respect. He certainly earned it!

It`s not going to happen, jpc1701. The truth is that all these TNG-era people who paramount has allowed to ruin star trek were contemptuious of everything TOS from the start. Kirk was too politically incorrect for the more Huxleyesque TNG universe...so they removed him...but Bill WILL have the final laugh when the new star trek movie completely bombs next year at the box office. Old line trek fandom WILL have the last laugh over paramount for destroying our beloved STAR TREK.

Damn straight! You just told it like it is! Kirk and his crew were never-say-die DOERS while Picard and his beautiful people were die-first TALKERS...and there will always be a chasm of difference between the two.

I tend to agree with you to a point. I don't know how others here feel, but personally, I felt insulted to think that Paramount thought so little of our ability to accept the other ST series that they thought killing off Kirk would somehow erase him from our minds and clear the path for new captains. I really think that when the Enterprise galactically rode off into the sunset at the end of The Undiscovered Country and everyone signed off, it should have been left at that. There was no need to come back and kill off anyone from the original cast. As far as I and possibly others were concerned, the Enterprise and its crew were off to explore places left only to our imaginations. Even in some of the new series, there could have been opportunity to throw in hints of some heroic act of the original crew that influenced the present day of the new ST world.

I just hope that they don't get some notion in their heads to kill off Pickard, Sisco or Janeway. That would really insult my intelligence and imagination.

You know, ASB, for you to try and blame the ruination of star trek on old line trekkers is really pathetic. What has destroyed star trek is left-wing political correctness, unisex costumes and effeminate male leading characters topped off with the removal of Captain Kirk. I didn`t do that. Millions of trekkers didn`t do that. No, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga did that with the now continuing assistance of J.J. Abrams. Paramount WOULD RATHER DESTROY star trek for all time then put a politically incorrect (he notices women) Shatner-imbued James Kirk back into the mix. If I said it once then I will say it again. It is no small coincidence that Roddenberry wanted his new reimagined starship captain to be a frenchman.

If they want to make more money on the movie, having Shatner in it will certainly help the bottom line. How can leaving him out be a good decision?

Like the thread sez, put him in NOW! NOW! No more of this tip-toeing around and making a lame, PC, wishy-washy don't even try to insult the looneys version of ST. NOW!

You know, not having Shatner in the new movie is just an UGLY thing to do. There's no other word for it...well, maybe UGGLE, but that's it. They're ugly people living in an uggle world, having uggle kids and destroying the planet.

You wanna blame someone for ruining the franchise, along with the planet? Blame those who think William Shatner doesn't deserve a big role and a big chunk of the profits..TAX FREE, by the way. These people don't have a clue and I refuse to watch an UGLY movie. This is more ugly than that one chick on Sex in the City.
