Peace be with you. Cool Cool Usually with Memorial Day alot of people head out to the lakes or go on some type of vacation. Kind of alike an affirmation of life. Alot of people go to the cemetaries and pay respects to their loved ones. I've always believed in doing the latter. Unfortunately seeing how the gas prices are crippling and most of my family is buried 30 miles away in two directions I have to stay home and clean house. Maybe I'll go outside for a while and soak up some sun. It's going to be in the 90's tomorrow. Cool

For alot of years I've always thought that people who go vacationing during Memorial Day were kind of disrespectful. I know that quite a few people don't want to show up at a grave and put flowers down for relatives that they don't know or never met. Some of them don't want to do honor to ones who did them wrong many times over. But I'm a traditionalist and despite what's been done to me and mine in the past it is in the past. I've got relatives scattered all over the state that I never got to see after the funeral and that makes me sad. Some of them I loved and some I feel guilty over hating now. Now the older I get the more that hate is less important and who wants to stay bitter at someone no longer here to cause problems? Not me. Cool Cool

Hi Angel....I go to the cemetery the first thing Memorial Day weekend and put a flag on my Great Great Great Uncles grave as he died during the Civil war fighting in Cairo Ill in 1864-65.

I then pay respects to my Uncles and cousins who have passed on that served in WW1 and WW2, Korea and Vietnam. We then put out our flag and then we go have our cook out, which we are doing today. Tomorrow we are going to see the parade and ceremony here in town if it's not storming. I can see on radar that a huge storm is coming over the border on Iowa and Illinois and is racing twords us. I pray to God it's not a tornado coming..... Shocked

Hey DianaG! Very Happy Very Happy Sounds like you got a busy day visiting the relatives! I hope that it isn't tornado weather for you but it might be. Had some in the northern part of this state. Hit a pig farm. Flying pigs were a reality yesterdayImage. Razz Razz Poor things. I'd rather be taken out that way then be on someone's plate the next week, if I were a pig! Laughing Laughing
I have my gramma and grampa buried in Tuttle w/ also my great-grandma and great aunts and uncles. Grampa was a WWII vet who was in the Pacific campaign. Then I have some aunts and cousins buried in the city w/ my father-in-law and my mother-in-law. My father-in-law was in the army during WWII in France. Then my other grandpa is at Pawhuska and my great-aunt is in Sapulpa. They're scattered everywhere and I can't see them because we're broker than broke for the next couple of weeks Sad Sad It's been raining to beat the band over here this morning, too. It's started to clear up and look real pretty. Maybe I can sit outside for a while today and read a Jennifer Crusie book I've started. Cool Cool

This is a time of reflection on the accomplishments of the armed services.
Last weeked, the Honor Flight came to Dannelly Field in Montgomery. I was watching it. The WWII war heros visited the memorial that was in Washington DC. Nice. All I saw was the families and the vetereans. I remember on of the filming crew, an interviewer, saying "We are all veterans"
Look could some one help me?
I am stuck way out here in Alabama. I can't move or do anything.

Hi, what is the history and purpose of Memorial Day, I am not familiar with this holiday. I am assuming from what I have read it has something to do with respecting fallen soldiers.

Have a great weekend

Memorial Day was actually called Remebrance Day after the Civil War in the 1860's. Women began to put flowers on the graves of fallen Civil war soldiers to remember them. After a few years it began to go over to remembering all family and friends who had died. It was changed to Memorial Day but it began to remember the Civil War dead.

I don't have anyone in my family that died in any wars, but several that fought in them. I have my flag up, flying in the breeze!!! And since it's dark here, the porch light is a blazin'!!!!

Thanks to all those that died in the service to our country!!! Bless you all!!!
