After yesterday I am surprised I can think, let alone type........
Actually it started Monday with Hannah's Dr appointment. She's my 17 year old....She had had problems with her blood and she has lost a lot lately due to her "flowers" every month ( if you know what I mean ) Well it had been going on now for 3 + weeks and she had turned a funny yellow color. They did a blood draw for the thyroid her birth control pills, the liver, the kidneys and they anemia.
Well we went home and then out shopping for my parents as they had been ill for over a week with a resistant strain of the tummy and intestinal flu. and we got home about 5 pm.
5 urgent messages from the Dr office were on the answering machine the last one saying the were going to call me early as Hannah had lost a serious amt of blood and her body only had less than half it's volume!!!!!!!!!
We got the call at 8 am saying they wanted us to go to the hospital as she needed 3 blood transfusions immediatly.
Hannah protested at first but then she didn't feel good and felt weak..I just told her she was going as she was very yellow looking, put her in the car and we went to the hospital lab to get her blood cross matched and preped for the blood draw.Right after they did the blood draw, she began to cry and said she felt sick and light headed. she suddenly turned a funny gray and blacked out...scaring the crap out of me..20 nurses all came in the room and got her on a table and began to put her legs up and lower her head and put ice on her neck. After an hour they got her, and me calmed down and started an IV.
When they got the blood started she was whitish grey and they were concerned about her. They said he blood pressure was 130 over 90 and her heart rate was 230.
I sat there for 6 and a half hours off and on as they gave her 3 pints of blood..Her boyfriend came and entertained her and took her mind off her hurting arm and her fears and then I called her Dad and he came too and they let him off work to come. Her sister came and she was happy we were there.
She is now doing better and her blood level is now near 14.0 instead of 6.0.She can go out and walk a bit and be out but not run around and she has to take it easy. She has a small bruise and some pain in her arms but she is ok.
We are trying to now decide what to do for her non stop bleeding as she has tried 6 diffrent pills and none of them are working. The blood transfusion she got will last her a week if she still is bleeding at her present rate.
Please, can you guys say some prayers for her and me...I am about shell shocked after these events as the anemia she had was so severe she could of died from lack of oxegen to the brain and heart since her blood was so thin and her fainting was a warning signal as she had felt faint before. I am about fed up with them trying all these pills and nothing helping her and we just need a solution or a healing from God.
I am doing a bit better today and I went out and got myself some dark Hersheys candy bars to treat myself with...
Thanks guys......

Sorry to read about this Diana.
Short of your daughter having a partial hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), I don't know of any other way for your daughter's bleeding to stop and I know that entails the possibility of her not being able to have children later on in life.
I will pray for you and the doctors to decide what would be the best course of action to take. |

Consider it done!!
Wow!!! That's just scary. I'd be getting her into the ob immediately. There's definately something wrong in that area (of this I should know!!). Sounds like she had a blood vessel burst in her uterus or something. Not good!!!
I'll be thinking good thoughts for her, you and the rest of your family. |

I will definitely keep you, your daughter and the attending doctors in my prayers.
I went through a similar situation when I was younger. It turned out to be the beginning stages of uterine cancer and had to have a hysterectomy.
I am praying that the doctors wil find the problem quickly and then do what is necessary to heal your daughter.
Take care. We are here for you.

thanks guys for the prayers...I am doing a bit better today and so is Hannah, but the stress effect still is there for the both of us.
I hope these 6th set of pills in 5 years work as there isn't any other thing to do for her short of giving her a transfusion every week or doing an uterine oblation on her and not a hysterectomy.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Hannah! I will sure offer up some prayers for her, and for you as well.
A uterine ablation may or may not help. In theory they should stop, or severly lessen, the amount of monthly bleeding, but they aren't always effective. (been there, done that). Did the doctor tell you that once an ablation is done that Hannah will never be able to have children? Becoming pregnant after an ablation can be fatal to both mom and baby.
Have they considered doing just a D&C and see if that will help? |

I'm adding Ceremony for ALL to go WELL.....
and I'm with CAT on this....really Research what they are offering you and question the projected outcome...what they offer as a "lesser" solution is often more likely to cause long term problems....
(shoot, just taking the pill at an early age, to regulate bleeding, can cause major problems down the road...it did to me)
Keep us Updated |

I will know more next Tuesday as we go for a follow up appointment at 1:30 pm. to the Ob/Gyn we see.
I really don't want her to have an oblation myself and I already told them no hysterectomy but we mostly need wisdom on what to do....And how to treat this thing. Samantha and I have done well on the pills but Hannah is still struggling with her "flowers"
As you suggested Cat I may ask them about a D&C for her as one of those helped me for a while.

an update on Hannah, she is doing ok but still having problems with staunching the flow...they are trying one more pill,
Yaz, and if it doesen't work, then they are going to try hormone shots of Depo provera to see if it will stop it.
The Dr said that a D&C is only temporary, and an uterine oblation is not for her as it doesent work very well and can be risks for her if she ever got pregnant.
At least the plant based iron is helping her and she's had no stomach pain or side effects from it.
Mostly now we need prayer that these pills work and she doesen't have any bad bleeding over the next 3 months or we'll be right back in the ER with another transfusion....
