Thats what My daughter calls them in Chickasha. while I was there a tornado came pretty close for me to see just how their mobile type home would be no match for one even near by.
So I am having one of these installed for her .
The company Phipps will get it in by next week.
I will post images:)
This is the concrete type is Height 6.2 length 8' and width 6.2
so what type do you Tornado Alley folks have.

That's a good looking cellar. My neighbor's cellar down the street is pretty old fashioned. Where the door is flush to the ground and it's probably about 10x8 and about 8ft tall. The one that I was in when I was a kid was a round domed one and it was about the same dimensions. |

Since the last devistating Tornado last week. this Guys phone has run hot. he is going to put Jeanette's in Next week for her.
So Many Wooden homes over where she lives no match for a tornado even on the fringes,
we are all now relieved they have this going in.
they are to far out of town to get to "shelters" mind nothing would stop these Tornado's . so the bunker is the way to go.

That's definitely a relief to know that your daughter is getting the shelter in soon. The weather guys are saying that this year's record for twisters is doubled for the whole country for this Spring. It's expensive business getting one put in but at the same time the cost of a family's life is invaluable. I'm curious, though. Do you experience tornadoes in your part of the world? I'm always fascinated in other's weather phenomena. |

We do have what we call "mini Tornadoes when a storm gets so violent it does twist. but not very wide and not wave after wave of them, we do have Cyclones/Hurricanes and as you know Darwin many years ago now was devastated with one force 5 . And 2 years ago Queensland was hit by a force 5 and a massive tidal serge. and it wiped out the banana plantations for many miles, and market gardens. Homes gone but no loss of life.
we do have massive storms that tear off roofs and such these are pretty bad. parts of Sydney have been living with tarpaulins for months now such was the damage from summer storms. cars, solar heaters on roofs windows ruined when Golf ball and bigger hail stones are mixed in with the storms.
We have earth tremors where I live but only small. Here the weather is quite stable but we do get horrendous lightning storms. That last for many hours the last one had 45,000 strikes and little rain. I was very nervous . I was home alone. these start fires so easily and that night several started over the back of the hills here.
All in all the balance is Ok long periods when we enjoy calm barmy weather. but look out Mother nature will always have the final say.

That sounds so much like home except for the hurricanes and tidal waves of course. We have tremors here occasionally but not on the scale of what California has. I didn't know about those storms that hurt Darwin and Queensland because our weather coverage mostly focuses on local weather. When the tornado season comes the weather guys dominate the television and local program comes to a screeching halt. But a lot of our meteorologists and weather men have won Emmys because of it!
I was just thinking about your sunset pictures the other day because we'd had a particularly pretty sunset the other night. And I was thinking it would have been a better one without the back of the grocery store blocking it. Some day I'd love to have some land with a view that's not disturbed by suburbia. |
