In the few decades since mankind began exploring space, thousands of spacecraft have been launched into the cosmos.
The vast majority of these are satellites, which remain in orbit around the Earth once their lifespan is complete.Computer-generated images released by the European Space Agency show the incredible impact of travelling to the stars, as the planet becomes increasingly choked by this man-made junk left to orbit around it.
The coloured ring shows the space around the planet known as low-Earth orbit. This extends to 2000 km above the Earth. Within this space are 80 percent of all catalogued objects of space junk.

Are we now making space one giant trash can, in the same way that we are doing to the Earth?
thoughts? |

| That's an incredible photo! It almost looks pretty from this angle. Like half of a peace sign! Too bad it's harmful. Amazing amount of junk and no way to retreive it? And if we could what would we do with it? Recycle it I guess. Wild! |

Where are the Klingons with their target practice torpedos?
Can you image all of that junk falling to earth at the same time?
I don't think that we are going to have to worry about the Almighty reigning down lightening bolts. We seem to be creating our own noggin clunking capabilities all by ourselves. And to think, this is only the playpen G-d created for us humans. Do you really think He will ever allow us wayword children into the parlor? |
