Well I now arrive in the US a couple of days earlier due to the Boeing Strike leading to my flying with Qantas and not V Australia (See other thread)
So I now get the longest ever Christmas day about 44 hours long due to crossing the date line and arriving before we leave.
So what can I now do Christmas day and boxing day in LA. Any suggestions. |

You'll be famished after that long haul across the Pacific .. Eat you must!
GREENBLATS is my favourite place for good food - generous portions - and a little schmoozola. Never know when you're going to be sitting next to some actor type / studio big wigs etc.

I'm not sure how they celebrate Christmas in LA.
I'm sure it would be very Californian
Maybe Paul or Kori will throw in.
I'd like to celebrate Christmas in the Smokey Mountains..

Actually I have no clue since I spend Christmas in Boston.
I'll ask my friends what there is to do in LA for Christmas (we don't have Boxing Day, btw ) |

| With all the air pollution from the jet and fossil fuels the jet will burn, it'll be a good idea to buy some carbon offsets. |

A trip to the Beach is always fun. IF we have family in town we go eat at PF Changs or Ruth Chris steak house.
The mountains are nearby.. you can always take a drive up to Big Bear or if you want remote and more snow... drive up to Mammoth.
Big Sur is not that far either.. you would LOVE it there. Its gorgeous. Santa Barbara is a lovely place too. If you go there.. stay over night on the beach. There are some great cabins that you can reserve.
Take your pick man, you'll just love it here. |

/Only a drop in the bucket compared to all the pollution generated by one jet flight. Nice pics, but I could show you my back yard with all the trees that really help with CO2, but I won't get into a pissing match.
//Many places, such as Lancaster County, are overrun with tourists who tend to run over and kill Amish kids with their cars. The roads were designed for the buggies, not the speeding tourists. That doesn't help our economy. So, please, don't think your vacations (holidays) are doing us any favors. 24,000...those travel agents are eating steak tonight!
My point is, actions speak louder than words. The same people that look at U.S. politics, tell us to vote a certain way, who are all in favor of "saving" the planet, like Al Gore, are the same people who ride in jets for pleasure and pollute. Actions speak louder than words. |

What is not shown in the pictures is the orchard and the number of tree's we have added, our 6 acres block was a field that had no trees or shrubs when we bought it, the change today is significant and the pictures above really don't show that. Its a very peaceful and polution free quiet lifestyle.
Tourism is in itself one of the greatest employers world wide, the service industry is the entry level for many young workers into the workforce and a fantastic place to learn customer service and a work ethic. When things happen that effect tourism $$$ then the economy takes a huge hit. Besides people need to get out and see the world to appreciate other peoples back yard, be sure that when you travel you meet the real locals.
Oh I also am the CEO of an organisation that operates two recyclng plants that service nine local Government areas, I think I am in credit on greenhouse gasses by millions of tonnes.
Still researching LA for great things to do, my daughter wants to go to the LA Ink tattoo shop, I want to buy some clothing from Walmart etc, clothing is so cheap in the US and not bad quality as well. I also have to recharge my pre paid phone and buy a second for the trip.
I am sure we can find plenty to do in Los Angeles for five days. |

BTW we do not use travel agents.
And the main reason I travel is My daughter unfortunatly lives in Oklahoma. she married an American man.
My other family members live in the UK.
And Like ASB when in Rome. in other words we combine a Holiday with visiting our Family
How else can we do it.

| Well I booked us into the Crown Plaza Hotel at Redondo Beach for Xmas and Boxing day so we are overlooking the beach which should be nice, I think this should be an ok base for a few days to relax and learn the lingo before our son and his girlfriend arrive on the 27th as we had originally planned. |
