Harvest Busk Stew
Vegetables:
Pumpkin (small pie size or part of larger one)
Squash (variety: acorn, yellow, whatever looks good)
Corn
Bell peppers: green, yellow, red, and orange if available.
Potatoes
Onions
You can also add green beans or any vegetable that goes good in a stew.
Meat: (if desired)
Sausage
Venison
Chicken
Turkey
Beef
Whatever your preference. You could even put in a combination of meats.
blanch the pumpkin and hard squashes to soften the skins to make them easier to cut and peel.
Cut veggies into chunks. Do the same with the meat (if not going vegetarian).
Put in desired spices. I like garlic, dillweed, and Mrs Dash. I have also used a product called Seminole spices.
You can either bake in over about an hour or until meat is cooked and veggies are soft, but not mushy.
Or, you can put everything in a large crock pot and let cook overnight.
Goes good with homemade bread.
The variety of colors represents the colorful regalia that the Seminole, Muskogee, Cherokee and some other Eastern Native Nations like to wear. |

Blackberry and apple crumble
Go into the countryside and pick yourself rather a lot of blackberries....or buy them from a greengrocer!
Put them and a chopped apple in a dish with a tablespoon of sugar and the same of plain flour.
Whizz plain flour, butter a touch of salt and some ground almonds in the mixer.
Put the mixture on top of the blackberries and bake til bubbly and brown.
Devour with cream or ice cream. |
